Thanks guys, I don't think it will cause much difference in play time as I would only expect that to be diminished if I was selected as chair...and that won't happen for a long time.

Tenure is nice, hard to get fired

True, you'd have to try pretty hard to get fired once you're locked down. It also means that I'm hard to hire, i.e. less mobile in the job market. Not that I'm planning on moving.

Yep, not too many places in Lethbridge you can do what you're doing and have access to the facilities you have access to.

Sh!t there isn't any other place in Canada that I can do what I do and get away with it. We've got the largest RS group outside of Quebec and I like to think we've got just about the perfect mix of people that do practical things and those like me that do more theoretical work. Most places have a single faculty member doing looking at stuff (what I do) we've got 4 - and I'm not the weirdest Shocking I know. Wait, there's an smilie for that...
