Don't know what happened - was watching it last night and it worked great. Turned it on this evening and the red gun is all ~. It's a 50" Toshiba rear projection HD - nothing fancy, and might not be worth repairing, but a bit spendy to replace.

Any ideas? If I DO replace it, has anyone got any hints for me? What should I be looking for, where should I be shopping, etc. I haven't got a clue about these things. Ian's probably got all the answers...

There's got to be a repair place somewhere in Calgary. Probably nothing too difficult to fix. How old? Warranty? My old GE 26" CRT won't die - bought it off the back of a truck for $300 15 years ago.

If you do replace. I recommend a samsung tv. We has a first gen 56" DLP and it works great, we have replaced the colour wheel on it once (~250, easy to replace ourself) and we have a spare bulb if it ever goes.

My kid farted around with the wii and the digital cable box along with a dvd player
and i think he blew the sound board.
my other twin said he heard the tv sizzle abit and some smoke came out.

Kids the most expensive pets you can have.....

Sorry to hear this happened Matt, I am also sorry I cannot offer any help. Technology moves so fast I have no idea what is the answer today, although I would also be looking seriously into front projection to replace my unit ... but hopefully that will not happen for some time yet.

There seems to be a fair amount of talk on-line about this problem, at work most of the sites from a Google search are filtered, but here is an idea
http://sci.tech-archive.net/pdf/Archive ... g00863.pdf

Good luck

Well it sounds like a convergence amp, by that link you sent me. The blue and green are fine, but the red is WAY off in the bottom left and top right corners, semi-close in the bottom right, and pretty darn close in the middle and top left. When I say WAY off, I mean 3-4 inches and all twisted.

I'll call Bestech today, and the Toshiba repair place up in the NE, and see what the deal is. If it'll be 3 weeks or an unreasonable amount of money (this TV is probably only worth about $300 in good nick), I'll head out & buy a Plasma.
