The Walmsleys and Coburns are gone for a week of heat, wine and other shenanigans in south central BC. Don't know how much access we'll have to unsecured wireless routers so don't be surprised if you don't hear from us regularly. The $250 960 is running like a champ so far... =D>

We made it without too much drama. The 960 ran like a champ. Getting over 30mpg...even including the Creston-Salmo Pass on 87 octane. Staying in Keremeos. More later...

Good stuff and better mpg (even if it is imp gallons!) than the mustang we had this weekend in california wine country. Our rental was almost as much as you paid for your car!!!

Filled up the car for the 2nd time. 650km on 57L. Can't complain about that. I have to pinch myself every time I drive this crazy car. It's the best $250 car I've ever bought...and I've never paid $250 for a car before...

Sounds like my 92 245GL. I bought it for $200 with a bad ECU. The previous mechanic replaced every sensor known to man to try to diagnose it. New bosch AMM, new crank position sensor, new power stage, recent volvo O2 sensor. I put an ECU in it after the PO rained about 3K into the car a month before on various things. The expression on the poor guy's face as I took the title and fired it up and drove it off was priceless.

It got 33usmpg at 80mph, ran prefect, not a spec of rust on it (sonoma/napa car), 335K miles (now has 400K on it) with blue paint. That was a "pinch yourself" kind of car that I should have never sold. Needing money and space does that though. The miles scared me at first, but the receipts were good and it commuted from wine country (sonoma/napa) to SF. I bought it in 2005 with 335k, which would be over 110 miles a day if one drove every day from 1992-2005.

960s are good cars if kept up too.

Hmmm, my $600 car was great till we hit Osoyoos late last month and then a new fuel pump doubled it's value. Nice FE numbers as well, my best was just under what you listed on 91 octane and ~ 40 less ponies... :( Hope the smoke has cleared off a bit for you guys, it was like a very very cloudy day when we passed through last week.

Was nice this morning so we took a drive on Green Mountain Road. It's sort of an alternate route into Penticton from Keremeos. It's pretty much the Duffy Lake road with no traffic and fewer cliffs. I'm totally blown away with how hard I can push the 960. Didn't have any trouble keeping up with Craig in the twisties. I'm becoming a fan of that Bilstein dampened IRS in a hurry. I'm running the TSW wheels that came on the red car so I have 225/50 rubber on it but they're Hankook Icebears for crying out loud. With all the corners we leaned into this morning, not once did they start to complain. Makes me wonder how hard I have to push it before they do complain. Good times...

Spent the afternoon in Osooyos. Lunch was Craig's birthday lunch and was on the patio at Nk'Mip Winery. Pretty amazing place they have. Wines were good but not great. Twisted Tree had nicer wines but we have lots of other wineries to visit so we're reserving judgement until we've visited a few more.

Went for a drive yesterday afternoon up the valley to Cathedral Lakes Provincial Park. Very pretty drive. Went about 40km up the road before it got a little too dicey and we turned around. By looking at a map, we were nearly in the US. Most of the road follows a gorgeous stream called the Ashnola River. Couldn't believe we only saw one fisherman the whole way. I suspect we'll be heading there tomorrow to try our luck. Will take some photos then....

We got home last night...somewhat later than we expected due to the wonderful traffic through the Okanagan valley. It took us about 3 hours to travel about 100km. It's way shorter but wow, what a mess traffic is through that corridor. We also spent about an hour idling along between Lake Louise and Castle Junction for some unknown reason. There is construction in the area and is single lane but there was no apparent reason why we would spend 5 or 10 minutes at a time, sitting, not moving.

All in all it was a wonderful time. Good food, some fun driving, great weather and seeing a beautiful area of the country and sharing it with some wonderful company all adds up to a fantastic vacation. The only thing that might have made it better is if it was about 2 weeks longer. Even found some beautiful water to do some fishing.

The $250 960 performed flawlessly; far beyond my expectations with regards to handling. Just a great experience from start to finish. I didn't take that many pictures this trip but have uploaded what I took to my Photobucket account. I'll post the link as soon as everything is done uploading...
