over the weekend i ended up stopping in calgary to buy a 1989 740GL (B230F) before i went on a camping trip to red deer river. it has 248,000 kms and the engine looks reeeeeeallly clean. and its a 5 speed :) the interior needs some work (dash is cracked, seats ripped, tear in cloth on roof, shitty cd player, little rust spot on left rear quarter panel, tailpipe came off, fog lights fuse keeps blowing), other than that shes a beauty. the guy was asking $2000 OBO so i got him down to $1500. i have many plans for this car, one including an engine swap.

would it be possible for me to swap my 1989 760 turbo engine into this 1989 740 and the 740 engine into the 760? will the old clutch be able to handle the turbo?

i am also wondering if i can use the b230f block and put the b230ft head, manifold, etc on or will the pistons/rods not be able to withstand the turbo?

and can someone tell me what kind of tranny is in the 89' 740? i thought it would be a 4 speed with overdrive but it is a 5 speed

i may even be willing to sell the complete b230f engine if anyone would be interested. well heres a few pics of the 740 on my cam phone, i took some other ones with my buddys digital camera and i will post them later.

She looks just like my 760 :D

Of course it's possible to swap engines. It's also possible to swap a turbo onto your B230F block. The clutch should be able to handle your turbo and then some. The 5 speed transmission is called an M47 - not the strongest thing in the world but Mr. Cleen hasn't broken his yet.

In my opinion $1500 for an 89 740 5 speed with 248000km is CHEAP considering how good of condition the engine is in and how badly i have wanted a manual 700 series. people have offered me over $4000 for my 89 760T with about the same kms on it but i said no because i inherited it when my dad passsed away a year and a half ago. ive seen people advertise older 740's with more kms for about $3000+. 8)

And I was thinking that I couldn't get more than 500$ for my '91 745tic! with 384500km

Nah, not for sale. I'm looking for a new car so I won't have to worry if my car fails somehow. And I won't be scared to put it apart to fix it. If I get ride of it, it's my bbrother or father who'll get it anyway.

steph, 1500 isnt that much...only the older 240's go for like 500, unless your matt dupuis and get a car for free cause it doesnt run then swap a motor into it

i paid 4400 for my 760...but it did just receive koni yellow's, TME springs, 25mm front and rear sway bars, polybushings all around, and a recent tune up, before i purchased it...

bascially rick sr. bought it for 2500...put another 1800 into it...then i dumped a shatload more into it as well 8)

ciao
