Hey everyone, so after about a month of working on the car and trying to get it to run properly ive got it driveable but im having boost issues and could use some pointers on my megasquirt VE maps, accell enrichments etc. I was wondering if anyone was interested in giving me a hand, I'll supply any drinks food etc., and i will have garage space, after pluggin away at it by myself i think its time for an outside opinion. I will be free starting this sunday and all of the next week most likely after that it might depend on my work situation, so if anyone has time it would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if anyones interested in giving me a hand, thanks!

Jon

Why don't you send me your .msq and let me know what version you're running, and I'll see if I can make some suggestions that'll help ahead of time. If we can work this out remotely, so much the better 'cause the last thing I have much of, is time to wrench on a car.

Provide as many specifications as you can - type of injectors, version of megasquirt, camshaft, engine (B21FT, 7.5:1, right?), etc.

ahhh, you're 80242gt or whatever on tbricks!

matt can help you with ms, you're welcome to stop by my place (if you can catch me here) or my work at lunch and I'll have a peek under the hood to see if I can spot anything suspicious.

First thing is making sure you have ms running right though. I can't help ya there!

Ahh, so im still having problems with boosting. Im hitting around 3 psi right now. Here is as much info and ideas that i can think of at this point...

Ok so the turbo was originally out of a b21ft car(so the boost level should be around 6-7 psi), its an oil cooled garrett t3. The turbo has not spewed any oil so far and has very little shaft play. I did a quick check of the turbo by pulling off the charge side pipe from the turbo and even at idle there is lots of air flowing through. I have put on an IC from a 740 and a b230 intake to accomidate the megasquirt.

Here are some of the symptoms. I have only ever taken the car to about 3500 while driving but i assume the turbo should build full boost well before that correct? but i am only building 3 psi. when the turbo comes in i can hear a loud hissing sound(should be normal right?), when i let off the gas there is a weird fluttering sound. Now the fluttering sound almost sounds like the sound i heard when raz's audi had a boost leak because there was a crack in a hose, but as far as i can tell there are no cracks in my hoses.

The only possible explanations i can think of are:

1) something wrong with the wastegate actuator, i dont know if these things wear out but maybe it has?

2) some sort of boost leak in the intercooler, or something in the piping ive over looked( i still cant account for the fluttering). Its just weird because i have check and re-checked and tightend down the rubber connectors between the piping and nothing seems to change.

anyone have any ideas?

Tommorrow im going to adjust the wastegate actuator to a higher boost level and see what happens, but im still baffled as to why i can only build 3 pounds of boost.

If you want, I have another couple wastegate actuators that you could try. If its drivable, bring it by on sunday and we can find it.

The hissing sound and only 3psi would make me jump at door #3...big leak somewhere. Could also be a vacuum leak at idle and might be causing issues there... Check the underside of all your i/c hoses and make sure nothing is split or just not on properly...

And the fluttering noise happened on my wagon with a side exit exhaust. I think it's the wastegate opening and closing, trying to control the boost spike that happens when you lift your foot and snap the throttle plate shut...

just disconnect the wastegate hose and you'll find out very quickly if the turbo will make boost.

Jon, you'll only build boost at full load... are you at WOT going to 3500 rpm? in say, 3rd gear?

yea i tried that even held the brake for a couple seconds at 3500 in 3rd and still only hit around 3 psi. kind of odd, ill fix a few things and see if anything changes. make sure my intake mani is seated properly and all the seals are good. Only other thing i can think of would be a problem with the IC but it doesnt appear to have a leak and seems to be in good condition. I might adjust the actuator a tad and see what kind of effect it has on it.

Andy i might take you up on that offer, i think having outside input would be helpful at this point.

well.......im a little..........out of.................breath.

I think i may have located my boost leak! Well i completely ran out of ideas today while trying to solve this problem, so i decided to try to simulate some sort of airflow with the car turned off, so i disconnected the cold side charge pipe, threw a rag over the end of the pipe so i didnt get a nice ring around my face and started blowin. I noticed the hiss that i was speaking of earlier, and after a half hour i tried putting my hand around each injector and noticed a pitch change on injector three, so i dabbed a bit of water on the seal and sure enough it bubble like mad. they are new seals so its unlikely they are shot, but obviously its not seated properly, so im going to pull the fuel rail, and do my best to reseat them then see what happens. Hope thats my only problem!

That's some nice sleuthing work right there! That's an odd place for a hole though.

i tried pluggin the hole in that picture which worked ok but then after checking it again i found another similar crack in the injector 4 seat so ive decided to cut my loses and go pull another intake and make sure its not cracked
