I've been thinking...

How difficult would it be to make it mandatory for new members to introduce themselves? By this I mean when they sign up, they are required to post in perhaps a "New Members" forum, and introduce themselves. Just some simple facts...where they live, what they drive, maybe an age group and how/where they heard about the group. Out of 64 members I see at least 15 or 16 have never posted. I also know that maybe 1/2 dozen of them are out-of-town members that have heard of this board through TurboBricks or the Brickboard. It would still be nice to get a basic intro from those members...

Meh. Look at how many thousands of folks on Tbricks have never made a post, or haven't made a post in the past year. Though it doesn't really harm anything, keeping those usernames locked up seems to be wasteful and only really helps pad the membership numbers.

I think having a clock on each username & clearing out the unused ones is a better idea. Who cares if someone pops their head in and doesn't say anything? Chances are they're not going to participate in any Calgary meetings if they're afraid to introduce themselves, and forcing them to introduce themselves isn't going to change that.

both good points i do like the idea of making new members post a breif introduction for themselves, since our forum is relatively small and tight knit i suggest that new members should make the effort to introduce themselves. also i think sometimes when people are invited to the group they assume that the person inviting them has already told the rest of the group about them.

I also like the idea of cleaning out old unused accounts, if they havent posted in a long time chances are the forum isnt on the top of their priority list and they wont miss their accounts
