Ok, I know this was discussed like 2 years ago on the email list but I lost all that (suprise suprise)

So I was wondering what everyone was using?

My new garage will be drywalled and insulated asap after I move in but I want to know if I can get away with a space heater or if I should just get a furnace for it (the gas line is already run through the garage).

any tips?

Do a furnace. It'll move air around and it's natural gas so it'll run way way cheaper. Space heaters are fine if you are standing in one spot. A furnace will warm the entire garage...

On that subject...it seem Imperial Oil intends to tear down all the houses and condos in the contaminated zone by my place. I'm going to call them this week and see what they're going to do with all the garages. I sure could use a lightweight insulated aluminum door and I'd like to see what furnaces some of them have. I drove down a couple of the back alleys today and I'd say I have about 10 or 15 garages to choose from...

And...what the hell is your 740 wagon doing out at PYP?

If you get your hands on a couple of furnaces I will grab one off ya, I have no idea how much they go for in stores.

Well...it's grey. It had a 3" d/p and exhaust with a rear Magnaflow Stainless muffler. It had red lowering springs and Tokiko shocks...

Sound familiar?

ya, you should have pulled some of that stuff. THat muffler was like $175 cost!

Wonder why it's there?

The only thing that was left by the time I got there was the shocks. Rick Sr and Rick Jr had the springs, sway bars, muffler and brakes. Chris M had the rest of the exhaust and the turbo. There wasn't much left after that...

The only damage I could see was the rear window was smashed out...

Damn, wish i would have known about it. I would have stripped that stuff myself.

Atleast other guys can enjoy it now, I know my ex didnt. Not that I care

So, how much did a furnace run you?

I haven't got one yet. Don't even know if they will let me have one. I've got one in my garage that was my old house furnace. I was going to run it on propane for a year or two until I got gas to my garage. Problem is, I can't get a propane adapter for it now...it's too old. Works fine and if you have gas to the garage already, it'll do fine. I'm not going to sell it though until I find out if I can get another one that's a bit newer that I can adapt to propane...

I've got the old furnace from my house in the garage, with a gas line plumbed in. It works great, but takes up a lot of space on the garage floor. If I had to do it from scratch, I'd fork over the money for an overhead gas unit....more efficient than an old furnace, and its out of the way. Space heaters don't cut it when it gets really cold.

get a CALCANA - Infrared Garage Heater. these things are amazing...

some guy on beyond sells them sometimes his name is enrich. furnaces are crap compared to these.

yes these are awesome they actually also use close to 50 percent less fuel to operate. I think install costs extra but its really easy to do yourself. i installed one in my friends garage. also if you have a gas line there anyways you could be brain dead and install it yourself.

My dad has one of those installed in his monster garage. They work ok if you're not too close. I had my truck in there and thought my hair was going to catch on fire every time it cranked up. I'm not crazy about the localized heat they produce. Better than a space heater, for sure. I'm not convinced they provide more heat than a forced air furnace and certainly not the even heat that a furnace does.... The best, of course, is in slab heating...
