Don't I have a bunch of these?

Dunno. I think I do too... somewhere in that shed of mine.

And I was wrong on the shield tilt. It's there, you just have to look for it.

What plug adapter are you refering to? How long are the bulbs? Pics I need pics. I just got my shippment in from Rallylights.com - E-code Hella's are so much nicer than crap-code Chinese

My DOT plug plugs in fine from my sealed beam single roundies. Just have to switch the high and low power pins to go from sealed beam to my H4s, which I've already done. Only 86+ 240s and 90+ 700s have other shenanigans that make plugging them in hard.

I think I will relay them, just because the startup max draw is fairly high and 240 headlight switches suck. Plan is to move the battery to the trunk and keep all the headlight electrics in one spot next to the highbeam relay etc, since spreading out related electrical parts bugs me and there isn't much space under the dash.

Shipping for both boxes was about $80 USD, but being I have a set of these, I sort of thought it would be best if you guys didn't have to pay that or all of that. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I mounted them up in some spare H4s I had from the BMW 2002 parts car and bracketed them to my workbench facing a white wall and I can't really tell any different from an H4 bulb. Of course, it may well be that those 7" roundies being OEM from the 70s are such old junk that it doesn't matter *shrug*.

OK, so no worries for us H4 people. I'll get these in and played with over the holidays - family coming...Craig stashing beer in garage.

For the 740 E-code, it takes the D-shaped plug with three round connections, rather than the box-shaped spade connection. On the earlier 700s, there's actually an adapter for the North American cars that's D-shaped plug on one side and box-shaped plug on the other. I'll have to repath the wires to H4 / single round, though.

Craig, I'll try and take pix tonight, if I get a chance. They're a lot smaller than the ones that were posted on Tbrix. I looked through eBay just now and couldn't find a single one who was selling the kits we got.

Thanks Matt...so it looks like I won't have to modify the buckets. Excellent.

How can I seal off the back? I currently have Bosch H4 165*100 rectangulars in my 740. I was thinking if I put these inside, I would have to find a way to seal the back off. My current lenses came with a rubber boot that clips over the back of the bulb. The 3 prongs poke thru it. I suppose I could 'doctor' up something.

The solenoid and capsule come out of the mounting flange with a bit of a turn. You mount the flange and shield in the headlight with the prongie clip, install the boot, and poke the solenoid/capsule through the boot. SHOULD seal up okay.

These do come with a special boot? Or do I have to cut mine to fit?

I couldn't tell you if you'd have to cut yours. They don't come with a boot - that would make them pretty specialized, wouldn't it? They're designed to fit on any vehicle that uses this type of headlight, provided you are able to give them the needed clearance.

For instance, in my 740 I've got the factory European headlights, and they come with a "back door" that closes off the rear of the housing. I will have to eliminate this door because there isn't enough room between the reflector and housing to fit the HID solenoid/capsule. Some cars aren't as easily modified.

I'm not sure if you're going up the wrong path here or not, but I'll say this now: we've already bought and received all the lights that were required, and we don't have any extra. You'd be buying your own from the eBay reseller, if you want some. I started this group buy quite a few months ago and actually placed the order more than a month ago, for only as many as people wanted. I did buy one extra kit, but I think that one's now spoken for.

Okay, some pictures of them installed in the headlights, comin' your way. Piktars left full resolution for a reason. Also, all pix are F8.0 and 1/180, full manual, for light output and colour comparison. They were all also shot with a tripod and without moving the camera, so if you save these pix to your computer you should be able to flick through them for a pretty good idea of the pattern and position difference. Headlights were held in a vice about 20" away from the wall.

First the 7" round Bosch, high beam:

And the 7" round Bosch, low beam:

Comments on installing the HIDs into these and the rectangular Bosch lights: I had to grind the crap out of the housing to get these to fit them. There's an inner lip on the housing that doesn't do anything with regard to aligning the lights, but it sho does get in da way.

Notice the high beams aren't terrible, but the low beams have a pretty bright spot high and center. I think that's going to have to get fixed with a shield mod before I use 'em.

Here's the Bosch rectangular high beams (4x6 rect. high/low lights):

And the low beam:

These are by far the worst, with regard to the low beam pattern. The 7" round have a forward shield, which prevents unreflected light from leaving the assembly. The H4 bulb has the tip painted, which is good enough for the 4x6, but obviously without anything there to prevent light from shining forward, you get a whole lot of scatter.

And here are Dale's funky Brazilian headlights. These had no troubles fitting the bulbs at all, nor do they have forward shields, but the pattern seems to be the least affected out of the three. However, the flimsy plastic clips were straining trying to hold in the beefier HID housing, and I'm afraid that after a few days in the car the bulbs would break the cilps and fall out.

That looks pretty good. I'll have to put a bit of push on this week to see if I can get mine installed with my new Hella E-Codes.
