If you would like, I can provide you with the dimensions for a box that will make your subs sound amazing without over excursion. Its a program I used to build the one in my volvo and I think you all heard that one.

Thanks Andy :D

Thanks all for your input, suggestions, knowledge and offers but youthful exuberance won out over patience. He did a fair amount of research and went around to many stores listening to systems. Last night he bought a dual Kicker 10" system in a ported cabinet (made by Kicker for the speakers) and a Kicker 400 watt amp.

Who knows, his old man may add a little more "punch" to his system one day ... that is if you can add a sub to a cassette or 8 track systems. Then all your knowledge will be sought because in simple terms "I am cheap"

Those packages are usually pretty well engineered, but of course are usually built for someone looking to rattle their windows (or licence plates), so are tuned for a fairly high frequency. Still, he should be mighty happy with it!

When you want to build something, we've got you covered. For an 8 track, I suggest a Bazooka Tube.

Actually, I've had surprising results with a ported box built for a pair of 6x9s. They're not going to shake bolts loose or break welds, but they blur the mirrors pretty efficiently! The only problem is that now most of your sound is coming from the rear because of course you're counting on full-range speakers for all your bass. Dale might actually go this way in his 242.

I actually have an old pair of Alpine 6" subwoofer model 6170 that I may get you to spec out boxes for. I just have to find the spec booklets for them

I'll check my program tonight when I get home and see if it has the specs loaded for those.

No hurry Andy, I appreciate your help.
These speakers have been kicking around for many (many, many) years so a while longer will not hurt them or upset me 8)
