If you still have both pieces of the oil return then I would suggest using it and putting a silicone/rubber hose section in there to act as a damper. I've found lots of oil returns that leak because the seal dries out and the vibrations help it leak, the silicone hose makes the oil return seal last a lot longer. Volvo hasn't figured that out yet but i've noticed that saab used it.

ok, so the heat wont kill my hose if i attach it close to the turbo? im talking really close here. thats ok? im using oil safe heater hose at the moment, and im going to replace the line in the spring with a proper braided AN type hose.

I'm not sure there is an oil safe heater hose that'll stand up to it, unless you're using a silicone hose. I went to Green Line and got me a chunk of 1" silicone meant for nasty oil transfer, and am using that. It'll live right up near the turbo - I'll promise that.

that "oil safe" hose probably means that the oil wont break it down as quick on the outside but i'm sure when you're just running it through the entire time it wont take long to swell. As Matt said head to a hose shop and pick up an appropriate hose. If you can measure it tonight I can check my tool box and see it one of my small coolant lines would work for you as it is lined with silicone inside the rubber hose.

hmm, funny.

i went to ability hose, they said they didn't have anything oil safe, they sent me to partsource and they gave me the hose i have now. i think i need about 12 - 18 inches of 3/4 hose, without measuring it. where would i go to get this silicone hose? or was the guy at ability just an idiot? lol, like i said, this is only a temporary setup, just untill the spring. so if the crap i have will last till then. good enough for me.
