Kat's coming over to try my oil flush idea today, Paul - I can swap injectors 'round and let it ride. Hopefully it gets cold enough to either do it on #3 or not do it at all.

My wild hair is that she's got 330,000 km of organic oil flowing through Viv's veins, changed at 7000 km intervals. There could be a good amount of sludge and slime in there, which COULD be fouling a lifter and hanging a valve open when it gets cold. Earlier B5234 engines suffered from hanging lifters known as Lawnmower Syndrome, so I figure later cars could be succeptable to the same thing given the right conditions. Even if this is not the problem, it can't hurt to flush the crankcase... I believe we're flushing the tranny at the same time, just for good measure.

Ian's bet is on injectors, and I think my idea IS a bit far-fetched, but if you have changed plugs and checked wires/cap/rotor, there isn't much left.

Your idea is one that should be done anyway though Matt so that will be all good. I plan on doing lots of mad errands around town but should be at your place round two thirty give me a call if we need to fudge the time or if you do need anything from out and about lol. Odd thought - I had no mis fires while running the injector cleaner but got one the other night when i was not - did not have time to stop by cdn tire this week

only problem with an engine flush is Christine is high mileage and may start to burn oil and lots of it.
swap injectors would be a good route to go.

Why would she start burning oil? Are you thinking the gunk could be sealing a few leaks?

because you can wash the carbon out behind the piston rings and now you have a loose cylinder.

So after running crank case cleaner through and sea foam plus doing some chinese water torture - have your code reader handy lol - and swappin injectors on four and five we found something interesting - which could be part of my issue. VACUUM LEAK FROM HELL its under the cyl furthest to the pass side - paul its a pain to get to but i am sure your lads are up to a challenge if its ok i will bring her in monday. No sign of blue smoke yet either ;-)

Yeah, it's the vacuum elbow at the #1 side of the intake manifold, I presume to go to the PCV system 'cause it runs underneath.

#4 & 5 injectors have been swapped, so if the misfire moves around we'll know what's happened.

Location: Didn't learn, now renovating bathroom #2, and you think cars are expensive!!!
Is that the one that you have to remove the intake manifold to get at?
If it is it would be worth while to replace the entire PCV breather system.

If it is not, Kat forget I said anything
