hey guys, i've got some serious oil pressure / wear issues in my k block, and it's not long for the world... looking for a good b230 block, would prefer a later L/squirter block. I've got a set of RSI rods, and wouldn't mind dropping in the 16v pistons while i'm there, so looking for a set of those too. anyone got one that just needs a hone?

How about some AQ171 pistons and rods? I've got a set in a box in the garage.

Raz might have a block he'd be willing to part with but I'll let him speak for himself...

hmm, crandall has a b234 forged crank and pistons for 150 + shipping, i've got some RSI rods... this means i need one of the late model b230 blocks with the full thrust bearing instead of half.... that makes things a fair bit more tricky, and it has to be good enough to take a light hone and run stock sized pistons... hmm... do you have the aq171 crank too?

If I did do you honestly think any of it would be available. No sir...it would be in the engine I'm building...

Sorry, I have no late model blocks to spare.

I have an older K block somewhere that im not using, but its got the shitty bearings and everything...

Well, got a b234 rotating assembly.... i just hope my block is in good enough shape to be reused.

Does the crank match your block? i.e., is it a #3 main thrust crank or a #5 main thrust? What about the block?

Edit - never mind - you're probably re-using your B230 crank, right?

16v crank so it has a #5 thrust, i'll use it because it's forged and according to the internet is better :P

I may be reusing the block, but more than likely will not depending on how it's worn from the oiling issues and how the bores look at 250k. Pulling that this weekend..

I'm also looking at converting to a T5 during this swap (may as well, i've got the late dash so a hole for the shifter isn't terrible to place // no fuse box to move.. all i need to find now is the driveshaft length and an m46 B/H, and the appropriate PP and clutch... and the pedal assembly.. still gotta have a look to see if i need to swap to a v8 input shaft or not from the 4cyl one on there...

I'm pretty sure that being a 16v doesn't guarantee it's a #5 main or a forged crank. In fact, I thought only the boat motors had forged cranks... Unless the seller told you different, that is. Truth be told, I don't know a lot about the B234 insides.

aw damn! it doesn't have a forged crank after a bunch of phoning around, still, pistons and 13mm rods are worth the price i paid....

Now, just to deal with the 10:1 compression the stock 16v has, it will drop though with the 8v head.. lot bigger CC's

Forged crank isn't needed, imho.

Where DO you get your information? I've personally measured them, and from memory the B234 head has 55cc chambers, the 405 has 53cc chambers, the 530 has 51cc chambers. All give or take half a cc.

And why are you putting 16v pistons under an 8v head? Just for the future?

yeah, the 16v pistons are for the near future... http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/~amh110/1 ... _volvo.htm is the 10:1 compression ratio guestimate... but what i'm thinking is since the stroke is the same, and the combustion chambers differ only slightly, that the pistons must be a tad taller or something to have it stock like that, so it could be interesting to see how it works out... i should try and compile my info somewhere once i get a chance to have everything in front of me

I was asking where you got the idea that the B230 head was "bigger" volumetrically than the B234 head, i.e., the compression ratio would drop with the 8v head.

Most B23F engines had 10.3:1 compression, as did the '83 B23E. The '81-'82 B23E had 10.0:1 with the bigger head. Keep in mind that these and the B234F rating of 10.0:1 are "nominal", based on the maximum they could be (tallest rod, longest stroke, shortest deck height, biggest bore, tallest piston, smallest dish / valve reliefs, and smallest combustion chamber) within factory tolerances.
