With u-haul notwithstanding picking up Roj's neighbors 1985 740ti was fairly painless. In spite of u-hauls' computer's assertion that my truck wasn't up to the job the old Dodge pulled car and trailer easily in OD most of the way.

The car is definitely rougher than our 86 740 GLE with 475K, this one is a pup with only 323K although there is some surface rust and the engine bay is covered in oil. The exhaust is shot but the underside is relatively clean, somebody has also been doing alot of parking by braille as the Sirius rims are ground down in spots. Found a receipt in the glove box from around 300K from some no name trans shop that rebuilt the m46 and clutch, hopefully it was all done right.

Should be interesting as this is my first project car, learning curve will be steep but I am really looking forward to getting this car back on the road, my post count should rise exponentially as well maybe even rivalling pro_star....

Just needs a good clean and polish! I don't think I've ever seen that colour on a Volvo before!

All the best with the project.

Thx Darren, yeah polishing with some 100 grit sandpaper in spots should do the trick  I really like the colour, you're right it's not very common.

Yeah the tires were really low, but I pumped them up before we loaded it on the trailer...

Yeah I think this car has future awesomeness and the price was very much so.

From what I could tell when I saw it in person the interior looked to be in decent shape. wash that sucker and it will look a whole lot better.

Yup, gave it a quick wash last night (in the rain!!!) before I pushed it into the garage. Made a big difference!! The interior is pretty nice, much nicer than the exterior for the age. Kind of a funky striped fabric that I haven't seen before, was expecting the checkerboard pattern but I guess that must have started on the 86MY. I still need to power wash the engine bay though, it is absolutely saturated in oil.

Wow, that engine bay makes me want to puke - who would do that to a car? Why would UHaul doubt that your truck could tow that car? Looking forward to the progress on this one.

I think the interior was an optional item a step down from the leather. Does it have the matching blue dash, door cards and carpets? I love that blue combo! =P~ Apparently very comfortable also!

One thing I have noticed is the script 740 and Turbo text - in the UK it was just typical Volvo square text and much more suiting in my opinion!

It's the worst I have ever seen, looks like the engine compartment of a 671 Detroit aka the "slobbering jimmy". U-haul is a joke, 2 different locations ran it thru their computer and told me I was fine then the same location that told me it was OK has it denied at the time of the contract being entered yet the reservation was accepted 2 days earlier...

Yup, all blue and is as comfortable as any Volvo I have sat in. Funny you should mention the script, I was thinking the same thing last night when I got it home. I am pretty sure the 86+ models got the script that matches the Volvo on the other side which is the standard. And yes I don't care for the curly cue (if that makes any sense) script either, may have to look for some "proper" text at PNP next time. Funny though I saw a post once on TB where someone complimented the owner on the curly script he had put on a 240 I believe. Like I said doesn't do much for me either and doesn't look right with the square traditional Volvo script on the other side.

uh oh... this can't be good. It's about dead in the middle of the passenger door opening. Oddly the drivers side rocker is clean?
