ok so yesterday i was on my way home from school and i was stopped waiting to turn left on to crowchild when i was bumped on the rear end (u dont know how hard this is to write with out making it sound bad). there wasnt much damage on my car but the other guy messed up his passat pretty nicely. but now my bumper has to be held on by two metal coat hangers in stead of just one. so i figured i would bite the bullet and fix it now. the guy wants to settle this with out involving the insurance company. im wanting to do the work myself, so does anyone know how to remove and replace the bumper on a 740?

Go get a quote from somewhere to get it fixed, tell him thats how much it will be to fix it, get his cheque and there you go. Then go to pnp and get the stuff you need to fix it and you've made some cashola. His car? Doesn't matter cause he hit you.

What Andy said, make him pay shop rate regardless of who is doing the work. If you were not capable of doing it that's what he would have to pay for a shop to do it so that's what he should pay, if you do it yourself the difference is sweat equity on your part. Also don't tell him that, if he figures it out it's still none of his business. If he gets ignorant about it tell him to go through insurance then and he'll shut up pretty quick.

I had this happen a couple of years ago where the guy said I was just going to take the money because "who would fix an old car (our 86 740) like that, you'll just take the money and not fix it". I finally gave him an ultimatum of noon the following day or I was calling the cops to report it as a hit and run. He went to the bodyshop and paid for the repair in advance so I couldn't have the money and had to get it fixed. This was fine by me as it wasn't a repair I could do and I wanted it done. Moral of the story, don't let him dick you around, you have the upper hand as he hit you and doesn't want to go through insurance.
