OK - time for some updates. I've pretty much got the fuel tank figured out and parts of it are even welded. I'll pop some picks up when I get it done (this weekend?). Most of the rest of the parts I will need are arrayed around my computer in a few dozen boxes and bins. As most know, this is intended to be the last major refit of the Canuck for quite some time and I'm trying to do it right as I'm redoing stuff that I've already done once.
I was never quite happy with the way it went first time around as I was diverted from my original vision to doing some stuff that changed the way that I was thinking about things. Now the car is a mish-mash of styles and I'd like to settle on one look for the entire project. I'm also increasing the build quality of the car to well beyond where I had originally intended it to go. Not that I was hacking it before, but I was guilty of driving while modifying last time and I've learned my lesson (I think).
So my current dilemma extends from the custom gauges that I had made. I wanted to get rid of the stuck on 3-gauge panel below my shifter that I made years ago and ditch the tach as it was in a pod on the A-pillar and not really as visible as it could be despite it's presence (wrong side of the wheel).
The dash on the 122 is dominated by the VDO ribbon speedometer and it tends to take up all of the available space.

The old competition Volvo dash replacement did away with this speedo in favour of round faced gauges.
The 123GT added the pedestal tach and the tray to hold stuff (as a side note the PV544 had a glove box, the 120's never did).

I'm not looking to replicate anything here and want to bring a fresh look to the interior.
Things I'm looking to not do include:
Look Ma, I made a cluster out of left over aluminium and I glued gauges to my dash...

I made my own out of wood...

I got my hands on some machine turned aluminium plate and know how to use it...

I got a good deal on a gauge pod at Can Tire...

This was cool.

Until this happened to it...

So, I'm doing something along the lines of above. Here's the start point.
Custom gauges - so far.

Thinking about adding something like this (either surface mount or behind mount).

Most of this will require me to ditch the ribbon speedo - I didn't want to, but it just doesn't look right with the round gauges and the ribbon. So now I'm thinking about adding in the GPS speedo that they (Speedhut.com) makes and add in a fuel gauge. Another $360 or so, but it's only money right.
OK - What do you guys think?
