I went out to the garage this morning and was welcomed into the man cave by this sight...

I'm going to need a new CVC sticker, oh and a better place to store that 960 oil pan.

I could list the front hubs as one, the battery exploding as two and this as three...I hope that's it. Those pans have been in the attic for 3 years without incident. Oh well. I guess that's it for driving this year. :(

Talk about the right place to land though- I'd take a rear window over a wrecked trunk or roof any day!

Ugly Duck is already coming to my rescue. Good thing, our friend on TB wants $1500 for front and rear glass when ready

That's the shits. If you need a hand with the glass let me know. I need to learn how to do that anyway.

Hi Craig,

A couple of years ago you could still get 122 front windshields right from Volvo, and I didn't think it was that expensive.

Sorry if I'm way off and send you on a goose chase, but my 122's windshield came from Valentine.

I broke a rear window...not the front. Got it covered. This thread will start to get busy in a bit. For now I'm just spending money. Just wait.

Picking up the engine on Monday...starting the block prep this week. Still don't have the bearings or the cam.

So sorry Craig, saw this post and went out and looked up in my garage ... holly shit I have some concerns that the roof may fall down with everything I have stored up there.

OK - time for some updates. I've pretty much got the fuel tank figured out and parts of it are even welded. I'll pop some picks up when I get it done (this weekend?). Most of the rest of the parts I will need are arrayed around my computer in a few dozen boxes and bins. As most know, this is intended to be the last major refit of the Canuck for quite some time and I'm trying to do it right as I'm redoing stuff that I've already done once.

I was never quite happy with the way it went first time around as I was diverted from my original vision to doing some stuff that changed the way that I was thinking about things. Now the car is a mish-mash of styles and I'd like to settle on one look for the entire project. I'm also increasing the build quality of the car to well beyond where I had originally intended it to go. Not that I was hacking it before, but I was guilty of driving while modifying last time and I've learned my lesson (I think).

So my current dilemma extends from the custom gauges that I had made. I wanted to get rid of the stuck on 3-gauge panel below my shifter that I made years ago and ditch the tach as it was in a pod on the A-pillar and not really as visible as it could be despite it's presence (wrong side of the wheel).

The dash on the 122 is dominated by the VDO ribbon speedometer and it tends to take up all of the available space.

Image

The old competition Volvo dash replacement did away with this speedo in favour of round faced gauges.

Image

The 123GT added the pedestal tach and the tray to hold stuff (as a side note the PV544 had a glove box, the 120's never did).

Image

I'm not looking to replicate anything here and want to bring a fresh look to the interior.

Things I'm looking to not do include:

Look Ma, I made a cluster out of left over aluminium and I glued gauges to my dash...

Image

I made my own out of wood...

Image

I got my hands on some machine turned aluminium plate and know how to use it...

Image

I got a good deal on a gauge pod at Can Tire...

Image

This was cool.

Image

Until this happened to it...

Image

So, I'm doing something along the lines of above. Here's the start point.

Custom gauges - so far.

Image

Thinking about adding something like this (either surface mount or behind mount).

Image

Most of this will require me to ditch the ribbon speedo - I didn't want to, but it just doesn't look right with the round gauges and the ribbon. So now I'm thinking about adding in the GPS speedo that they (Speedhut.com) makes and add in a fuel gauge. Another $360 or so, but it's only money right.

OK - What do you guys think?

Really liking the R-sport yellow on black gauges. Too bad about the ribbon speedo but it's not an original resto car so a speedo that goes with the other gauges makes more sense and will look way more better. Looking forward to the finished product.
