Does anyone have a 240 alternator (internally regulated) that they don't need? I need one for mock up on the 122's B20.

Not the same thing, AFAIK. I think the 240 alt has tabs at 120* to one another and the 740 has them at 180*, or 120* to the other side. The 740 is a slightly larger case too, IIRC, being a 90 amp and all.

As with nearly everything: I could be wrong, though.

Hmmmm. Well that's no good if the mounting points are different. Crap. This one was only a 70 amp, so it didn't look any bigger to me, but I think my YROG 240 one is a 70 amp as well. I also noticed the plug on the back of the 740 one, which is two prong and black, and the 240 ones I've seen have never had that. Maybe late model 240's did?

I think it depends on the year. I used a larger amp alternator in my 240 that I think I got out of a 760 or older 740. I have a spare in my garage but I have no idea what it's from- they certainly LOOK the same, but angles and such could be different.

I'm off to the JY tomorrow and will have a look at the differences. I'm not to worried, so long as what I have will work. I'll pull the wiring harness pigtail tomorrow so I have a few options. I'm mostly interested in an internally regulated three wire alternator.

Almost got skunked today at the JY...both 740's had alternators removed. When I pulled the antenna cable out of the wagon, I found that the previous owner had put a spare alternator in the underfloor area by the tail light :D . Great find. It's got the three lugs for cables instead of the plug that Greg's has. I'll take it in for a sandblasting and testing. Then I just need to cut one of the pullies off the front (with a lathe of course) or find a single grove pully that works.

Oh, and it was 70A as well.

I would have offered the alternator I got from Pat in his pile of stuff but it's from a 740 and didn't think it was what you were looking for.

 I pulled that alternator and hid it there to pick up on a future trip, not sure why I never went back for it?

That's funny Pat thought he may have put it there as it was his old car! Thanks either way.
