So over the part few months i've been acquiring throwaway HID headlights from work.
Heres what i'm working with right now.
I have another s60/v70 one (like the middle one) that I took apart.

This is the xc90 one, i'm not going to use it though, the housing for the lense is just too huge. So it'll head to my buddy for his escalade.

If I was still using the quad rectangles i'd use the s60 housing....but i'm not so I'll take the guts from this. The housing measures 7.25" x 4.25", a light from the quad rectangle setup is 6.25" x 4" so trimming would be in order.

Here is the s40/v50 one, has the neat little blue trim ring around the lense, not sure if I want to use the trim ring or not yet. The housing measures 4.25" on this so I think it will be a nice fit. I only have one of these so far so i'm on the hunt for another one.

This is my bulb tester, old computer power supply with a iffy 5v rail, still has a good 12v so its perfect. Thats the s60/v70 headlight that I took apart.

Bulb tester works!

I took apart the s40/v50 light and took the housing out, Its kind of interesting to see how they made the highbeam/lowbeam setup on it. All it is, is a litte flap that directs the beam upwards....so there isn't really a gain in intensity.

I'll fiddle away at it as I get the pieces and keep updating this thread.
Insight and suggestions are welcome.

Andy

ps....I don't think i'm going to post my projects/progress on turbobricks anymore, i'm getting a little sick of the 2 reply and 150 views thing.

Interesting project, anyway. Get it right, please, for the sake of folks coming your way.

I'm really shying away from doing stuff half-assed now. The hassle it causes down the road is too much stress for me, so i'll be doing it right.
