Drove my car out tonight for the first time after the engine swap, radiator strapped down, oil cooler zip tied up, we were set to go.

Drove down to Bowness, car felt good - stronger torque than old engine... not sure why? more compression?

get into boost a little, 5.5psi - stock wastegate level - studders sometimes under more than 50% load at said psi - is that because my O2 is pooched? tooo much timing? 87 fuel still in tank from a month ago? all of the above?

Ipd cam is nice, on a smooth 1/4 throttle pull in 2nd it has a nice curve all the way to 6000, just nice and smooth - my volvo has never been so smooth :) why is that? :D

the new clutch is fantastic, this is what it's like to have a new clutch! Oh man it's nice :)

3.91 diff goes in ... now!

proper timing, misc vacuum leaks? - amm tuning - mmm Brackets, yes the radiator is in dire need of bracketry... think one of the bolts on the rubber doohickey U-joint is backwards, a bit of vibration at 150 or so? could be a tire - but i feel it in the transmission? oh, did I mention? it does 150 UP shaganappi from a standstill at John Laurie - half throttle, 4th gear, steadily climbing, barely making 4psi? baaarely stressing her out - such a nice motor!

:D

The engine has no higher compression ratio, and with the bigger cam should have lower compression even if the rings are in better shape. However, bigger cam + better ring seal = more oomph.

O2 does not work in boost, so O2 should have little to nothing to do with how it runs above 50% throttle. It's probably bad wires or cap or rotor or something, 'cause you said the car usually runs on 3 cylinders at idle, or something like that, right? Month old gas is just fine.

i think the timing is out, maybe its running advanced quite a bit (no timing light) - and that could account for a bit of the lower end oomph, and the higher end stuttering? (under boost/load the knock sensor could be saying hi? - high timing and low grade old fuel?)

cheese.

new cap and rotor in the car, ran on 3 cylinders due to leaky #1 injector, new o-ring and some ferrarri tuning, and she's all purring away on 4 of them there cylindricals :)

Raz is on 87 octane by accident. We all normally run 91/92, though I really don't need anything more than 87 right now for all the time I spend in my high boost mode.

running a higher octane is actually worse performance wise unless your car needs it to avoid detonation. my mr2 needs 91 and if i am turning the boost up to fun levels (18 psi) it likes 94.

my volvo never pings so i run 87 although i dont usually boost up a lot and still have stock boost level anyway.

i actually noticed a change in how the engine ran though at midgrade. i cant remember if i mentioned my hairbrained idea that we could get away wtih running midgrade in ontario cause its lower elevation, n here the air is thinner so the oxygen mix isn't as optimal or some crap...(i have odd ideas sometimes that are possibly very far off the mark, who knows) but either way...she likes the 91, i give her the 91.

it is all about keeping the volvo happy. if the volvo ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

ya all the new volvos need premium even my 850 turbo needed premium. the reason they run like crap is because there is knocking and the knock sensor retards timing to save the engine.

If the car needs higher octane then by all means you should use it, i am just saying that some cars do not need this and it is a waste to put it in if its not needed. If you take your car to a dyno you will see that you want to run the lowest octane possible as long as you arent detonating.

Your problem is probably the injectors you have in the engine are too large for the current setup. You put in 35# or larger injectors didn't you?

Oh, I missed that. If that's the case, ya, LH 2.2 won't be too happy with anything other than stock injectors unless you do some muddling around with the AMM and it's wiring. Anything under 15psi just have good, clean stock injectors in there.
