As most of you know I plan to convert the 940T over from an auto (gawd I hate it !) to a manual gearbox. I have a M46 that I could use but it came from a 240 so I would need a remote from a 700/900 series to make it work. Anybody happen to have one of those that they don't need anymore ?
One question though. The bellhousing on the M46 I have is pre- 86 or whatever the cutoff is so it doesn't have the boss for the LH 2.4 crank position sensor. The bellhousing Trev used for his conversion was a later version with the boss for the sensor so it was easy to see where to grind out the hole needed for the sensor to go through.
Is it possible to grind out an opening for the CPS on any earlier type bellhousing that doesn't have any provision for a CPS opening ? Is it relatively easy to locate and mark the spot ? I was thinking that it could be done by putting the bellhousing from the automatic along side the M46 bellhousing, measuring carefully then marking the where the hole should be located and grinding it out. Or I suppose I could bolt the bellhousing onto the block and mark out exactly where the CPS is supposed to go.
The metal will be a little thicker than it would be on a bellhousing that has provision for the CPS hole but that's no big deal. Aluminum is easy to grind out. Does that sound feasible ? How accurately does the CPS hole have to be placed ?
Thanks,
Roj
P.S. Does anyone have a flat B21/23 flywheel they can let go of cheap ? Is there a difference between a B21/23 flywheel and a B18/B20 flywheel ? I have a spare B18 flywheel here that I could use if I they're the same.
Read my thread about the machine shop I found that could make a flat B21/23 flywheel LH 2.4 compatible:
