Hey guys, my friend ask me to post her car up as she is trying to sell it.

Its a 1987 Audi 5000s w/auto transmission. The car is in great shape except for the brakes and exhaust. I have not had a good look over the car recently but she had it inspected and the shop told her that her brakes were toast and they want $1200 or something rediculous to fix them, also they said her exhaust needed repair. She just bought a new car so she wants to get rid of the Audi as she can't afford to put any money into it.

She is asking $500 for it, it has been very well maintained with regular oil changes and is a very reliable vehicle, if anyone is interested in it shoot me a pm and I will get you in contact with her.

Thanks alot

Jon

yea pretty sleezy eh, i took the car out for a drive today, exterior is in great shape, no rust except for a touch of surface rust on the inside of the front pass wheel well, a little smaller then a dime. The car has a few quirks to her(minor mostly trim and lock related) engine is quite, pulls nicely, doesnt drip oil from what i can tell other than the valve cover gasket.

Brakes are usable but definately need to be replaced, they aren't unsafe- yet.

I read over the inspection sheet, the exhaust problem is apparently manifold related but i am doubtful they really took a look at it.

what *EXACTLY* needs to be replaced on the brakes? And this possible exhaust manifold issue, how difficult might it be to fix?

(I have a friend who is in need of a new car)

Discs, pads and a cleaning of the calipers usually sets you back 100 bucks if I do it, and I've done 4 audi 5000's brakes now :) even the crazy quattros :D

The manifolds crack and leak, so under full acceleration it sounds a little louder than stock, nothing bad - if there is a cracked or broken flange, a little welding can usually fix that up.

Audi 5000s are great cars, reliable, strong - I like them alot :)

I dont think i'd really want to weld a manifold....the cast iron doesn't like anything except for really high nickel content rods

If it's nodular iron (like most European manifolds) it welds up pretty nicely. I've never welded a manifold but I've welded to a number of redblock blocks & none of them took any special treatment.

Pfft, don't be like that, Andy - you're probably right, in that they prefer high nickel rod. I'm just saying that I've had success welding non-structural stuff to a cast iron block, as have others. Lots of people say that cast iron can't be welded properly without x rod, but I think in reality it's quite possible to patch it up (assuming good quality cast iron).

front needs rotors and pads, the back i am unsure about as the sheet said that they didnt appear to be working so it may need new calipers, but when i drove it the brakes seemed to stop well other than a pulsating feedback on the pedal.

as for the manifold i am unsure as to what exactly is wrong, i put it close to full throttle a couple times and it didnt sound overly loud so i doubt there is much wrong on that end
