I know the newer ones are the 4T65E tranny (xc90s) but maybe do a bit of research because they run gm trannies. I am not too sure if the bellhousings match or anything but just a bit of info.

The trany designation is an "AW 50-42LE" and appears to have come in:

- 70 Series 98-00
- 80 SERIES 99-03
- 40 SERIES 00-01

It will have a tag on the trany "AW 50-42"

Statistically and historically, GM makes mighty good transmissions. You could do lots worse.

Darlin', Volvo has never made their own Automatic... Borg Warner, Aisin Warner, GM - they're all built by someone else and used in LOTS of other vehicles.

Replied to your PM. That is rotten luck. Sounds like my luck getting rear ended and then me stupidly putting a dent in my 945T. 2 crappy things in one day. I see one with a blown hose once in a while. No idea what causes it.

Ya James, CVC members have not been having great luck lately

On the trany, now I am totally confused.
Checking on Vadis it does look like all Turbo 850 and 70 series use the AW50-42LE transmission. Maybe one of our resident Volvo experts can confirm this Andy, Jordan, Matt ??????

The trany should have a tag on it reading AW50-42 the LE means Lock-up.
It does appear that the trany has to come from a Turbo car
