Last night Raz found this awesome-sounding program that allows one to play with the LH2.2 fuel injection found in all '85-'89 Volvo 700 Turbos (and, incidentally, my Bertone). In the future, we'll be able to play with all SORTS of things that Fred's Chips leaves alone. Where will this end? Will we be able to use 50 lb/hr injectors and still have decent ignition maps, raise the rev limiter to 7000+, and still have factory driveability & economy?

This is going to be a fun little time in our lives, if we can start dicking around with our cars like that. I know Athal & Brad will be very interested in this as well.

Post the link to the program up here, would ya Raz?

BTW - you've just made up for a WHOLE bunch of past and future obnoxious! I think you've got a lot of the Tbrix boys very excited.

This is indeed very interesting. Hmmmmm. If this works, this will alter my future plans significantly. I've already started collecting some LH parts. Hmmmmm. Very cool.

Im going to dis-assemble this here program and see if I can't make it more volvo specific.

When we get into this, we should see if we can't open up the RPM target bins too. If we can up the rev limiter to 7500+ it doesn't do much good to have the last fuel bin reference at 6096 RPM. I don't know if this changes to scale with the rev limiter, which it might do automatically.

Have you got an Eprom reader/writer, Raz? Do you know if you have to pull the main chip or can you use the auxillary chip that Fred sells? Were there any instructions on that site, regarding these and other questions?

Looks like we're gonna need some Saab parts.

Does that Saab turbo at the PYP have the LH box? The silver car had LH didn't it? Sounds like you guys are going to have lots of fun with this one - are Ian and I the last of the carb ludites?

I have a carb on my Power Wagon, and on the 440 that's going into the Power Wagon as well. No plans to megasquirt that.

Edit - and K-jet is practically a carb.

You have me VERY excited! The 242 is LH2.2 and something will need changing once I switch turbos. Also, my new to me this weekend 740T will have 2.2.. and I would convert my 244 back to 2.2 if this worked out well.

Like VERY excited, totally.

Well, if things seem too good to be true, they probably are.

Raz and Fred and this other Saab tuner have been chatting, and it seems as though the Volvo LH2.2 and the Saab LH2.2 are a bit different. How different, we're not sure. Different enough that the reader might not be reading 100% properly, and if it's not reading 100% properly, it's certainly not writing 100% properly.

Raz figures he can get SOMETHING working, though. If at first it's just a raised rev limit, that's more than we had before.

Failing all that, Saab Turbo ECUs are going to become more popular. They're a plug-and-play in a Volvo, but they run like poop until they're tuned. Each change of tune requires a new chip. Tuning it successfully might take hundreds of chips.

I like the idea of reverse-engineering the system. Getting a Saab Eprom and reading it with this program, figuring out where in the Volvo Eprom the same information is stored, and then modifying the program to work with Volvo Eproms. That, or rearranging a Volvo Eprom's structure so that it might have been written by Saab, and working at it from that direction.

Either way, smarter heads than mine will be needed.

no 440, but a 360 and 727. It sported a Holey 650, Carter AFB, and in the end a ThermoQuad.

Nope, gold and tan. Extended cab long box full time 4 wheel drive. Came with a 400 but right now it's got a 383 in it that's VERY tired. The 440 is going to get a re-ring, new pumps, & a clean up, and that's about it. It IS a truck for going to the JY and the dump, after all.
