It's a round screw, i tried grabbing it with the chuck of my power drill and extracting it htat way but the head is too big for that....

it used to be a phillips. NOT ANYMORE!

so, um, if anyone has a set of vice grips or would be willing to donate a bit of their time to help me out with this, please let me know before I go absolutly batshit crazy? oh wait, I'm a lready there!

You must be kidding - for inserting screws use the blunt end of a hammer, for getting them out use the claw side. Dollar store mania.
