Morning... driving a 2000 Volvo C70, or was driving... it's parked.

A scan showed that it is throwing the codes:
0121 - TP Sensor Circuit Insufficient Activity
1603 - Loss of SDM Serial Data
1608 - Serial Communication Problem with Device 8

The shop that it is at is unsure of the exact problem, but apparently the car went in under warranty for replacement of the throttle sensor in 2002, as advised by the former owner.

Does this sound like it could be the current problem? Is this a common problem? Expensive fix? Any preventative maintenance that could be done to curb this problem?

Welcome to the forum.

I am sure that Andy (edicius) or James (945_James) will comment very soon, I am sure they see this problem at the dealerships. Your car uses a "drive by wire" system that started in the 1999 model year. This system has given some problems and there was a recall repair issued.

recall 155 I belive deals with throttle issues.

I suggest you call valentine volvo here (217-7484 for service) and with your VIN number they will be able to tell you if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls.

Super... it seems it hasn't received that "fix", so hopefully that's the problem! I guess I'll know by the end of next week.

Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum mystery poster...TAMMY.

Y'all will like her- she had her c70 doing about 150 in downtown saskatoon this summer with the surroundsound cranked so loud my ears were bleeding!

Not to worry, you have 6x as many posts as me.

What Andy said. Volvo has finally started to Admit more fault regarding those vintage Magnetti Merilli TBs. More likely than not it is getting ready to surge to like 4K and idle pretty soon. Fun! You may get to replace it again after 2002. The '99s and 2000s are by far the worst.

How many miles, er...kilometers...yeah (token board American).

Oh, and I am not dealer or even full time repair. Some fabrication, some repair. Most of my knowledge is 2002/E30/E34 or 140/240/740/850. '99 and newer is newer than I mess with. Almost done with a few tweaks with a stainless exhaust today. Just seem to fix a pretty good pile of bricks...I'd defer to Andy on dealer specific stuff.

Yeah! It seems that I am the lucky 1 in 20 who experiences multiple failures when the recall is done... let's hope these are just programming issues and will be solved soon.

Thanks again for all the help peeps! :P

Where did you ever come up with your handle (name) - almost as bad as that crazy cowbell avatar that Kat uses.
