242 GT's are fail, no turbo for the loose!

170 km/h is not an acceptable top speed for anything that says "GT" :D

Oh, so missing the point of the coolness of this car. I'd take one in a second.

I've seen the GT. It is a pretty solid example, but has been for sale for almost a year through various avenues. I'm not totally sure why. I'm not sure if it is the condition, asking price or what is causing people to shy away.

It doesn't look bad in person, but I think it probably has more miles on it. It doesn't take many times punching out the miles on an 1980- ODO with the car in motion to kill it or the lambda light coming on. Still, they seem to be dead or start to skip miles at closer to 120Kish. Still, if you punch out the trip ODO a lot over the years, regardless of miles, the ODO will likely skip and work intermittently like mine.

"Cute" is never a word that I've thought of for a 200 series car. The thing that kills me about that car is the 73-78 tail, which I really hate, and is no fault of the owner, condition or options. I need to find the non-sunroof '79GT that Pat saw hehe. Non-sunroof black headliner is cool though. I have one from a 78GT that I savagely ripped apart (wrecked with a zillion miles) that replaced the somewhat gross one in my DL.

The 78-79GT comes with the "mini-lite" slotty style 14" wheel. An '80 GT is basically a flathood silver '81 242T with a GT interior, B21F or B23E over a B21FT and stripes.

The headlight doors look like 1980 242DL/GT doors to me due to having adjuster notches on both sides IIRC. They have been painted all black one way or another aswell. The mirrors also look wrong, being chromie instead of black in that style.

I just like the 79-style headlights. I always thought the 80s ones were ugly as sin. (course - the 242 in question has the ugly-as-sin headlights...but I'm just throwing out of nowhere thoughts in here)

Hmm...when I had that motor in the 142 I had it going 160 with some room for more. Is your gearing shorter Dale?

no, his tune is worse than D-jet (LOL!) ... No, i'm kidding :D

Different car, different tires, different day, different rear end, different driver :)

It's not always just HP that makes for top speed :)

And Dale, your car is cool, it can stop, it sounds good and has mean looks, the 242gt would be cool if it had willwoods and suspension to boot, as well as a megasquirted engine - but bone stock K-jet or carburated b21F?

Sorry, no, not unless it's free... then i'd think of driving one

But who can resist the smell that an overly rich SU leaves in the garage on a cold winter morning?
