There's a nice looking '89 780 in the Buy 'n Sell. The ad headline says $8000 but in the text of the ad it says $4900 OBO

http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/Calg ... alian.aspx

Looks like it might be in real nice shape body-wise and the guy says he's spent $7K on it and has receipts...

Or there's an '87 760 Turbo wagon for $1500 obo

http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/Calg ... ape_2.aspx

Just in case anyone's interested...

Yah, it would look real nice as part of my growing 7 & 9 series collection...

I'd have to get rid of my old 240 to make room for it (easily done) and then find a roll containing $5 K that I didn't know I had in an old pair of jeans or something (not quite so easily done) ...

Laureen would kill me though... :axe:

It is a beautiful car, but I smell a scam. That looks like a press release photograph, and with the equipment that's on the car, the price is a bit too low.

There's already been two such Volvo-related scams posted on CVC in the past few months, but never one with a 20 year old car. The price for this one is quite a bit closer than a $4500 S80T6, too. I could be wrong.

Someone give him a call or an email. If he lives in Montana or Idaho, we'll know. If not, I'll probably have to shoot myself 'cause mine will never be as nice as that one for that kind of money.

Edit - if you're talking to him, I'd LOVE a high-res picture of that thing, as inspiration! I can't stop glancing at it.

Is it just me or does the ad not say:
"Posted on Saturday, October 06"

Maybe an old ad???
Wish I had the room to put it, a nice addition to anyone's collection

Hmmm, don't know what your purchase price on the 780 was, but I'm guessing you're under the 7K price point for amount spent not including the purchase price of the car. I'm sure it will turn out just as nice - if not a significant step up. A set of wheels and a coat of wax it pretty cheap.

My car cost me $500. It took about another $400 to get it here. The windshield will cost $400, add $1250 for Eikers and $500 for tires, probably another $1000 in miscellaneous bits that need to get replaced in the interior and suspension, $175 for an OOP inspection, and I'm up to $4225 or so. That guy's asking $4900 for his car right now, and it includes E-codes, headlight wipers, better body & paint (from what I can see), better interior (probably), etc.

If I'm using the $8000 figure he originally tried to sell it for, yeah... I could get mine pretty darn nice for that.

I couldn't take it anymore... I had to phone. The ad was legit, and that's an actual photo of the car. He sold it a while ago, though. It was hit in the trunk so there was some damage that needed tending to, but it was his baby.

Here's a page with a whole bunch of 780s for sale. Some look to be ok but definitely not as nice as that other one I found in the Buy 'n Sell:

http://www.vast.com/cars?make_id=Volvo& ... body=Coupe

It seems that most are automatics which is a bit of a bummer IMHO. Were they also available with manual trannys ?

Also, did the 780 have the IRS ?

After '87 they all came with IRS, and none of the US market ones came with a standard trans. I'm not sure about the Euro market though. There was a B204GT / M90 780 for sale on Tbrix a while back.
