Bored at work here, and just wondering how other think on this.

When you buy a car do you like buying it bone stock, or modified? I've bought a couple modified cars and generally I'm not happy.

I'm actually returning my Lexus to stock so I can sell it. I'm also thinking about doing that with my 242, only I can't really return that all the way to stock.

I have fond memories from the C70, the 740T and a couple of others and they were all original. I must be getting really old.

It's nice to have unmolested stuff. Modified cars are usually done to a lesser quality than you'd do yourself, and are always under the guise of something that hasn't been beaten on, but usually is.

I'm not happy with my OWN modifications half the time, so why would I be happy with someone elses! Unless it was Dale, Matt or Ian, but how many guys build to THEIR standards...

Yep. I prefer bone stock. Way too many variables with a modified car. Unless the person really knew what they were doing, and could prove it (ie: I'd buy a car from Craig), I'd stick with stock. I guess a modified car can usually be purchased for much less than the price of the car + mods, so I suppose that's a good thing....

Stock, stock, stock. I never trust any modifications anyone else has done (except maybe a few members mentioned above) and also the comment that most modified cars have been beaten upon in some manner really hold true.

The fond memories of the C70 continue Geoff, and yes it is remaining mostly stock, I have installed polly engine mounts as the stock units get beaten out quite fast, and come spring I will be installing Koni FST shocks but other that that everything else remains as it was originally built.
God I love driving that car 8)

Stock gets my vote. I've never owned a car (except the Beetle that we bought new) that wasn't tinkered with by the previous owner(s) and I've had enough with twisted wires held together with masking tape, bondo over tin foil and the like. Don't even get me started on bananas in the gear box or sawdust to take up gear lash!

If there were lots of pictures and you knew the person did excellent work then I would go for the modified car. I do get e-mails from time to time with people offering to buy my rather modified 122...but I ain't selling it.

my vote goes to stock. if you were to buy stock you can modify to your liking and not the previous owners liking. secondly as everyone so far has said most people will do very sh**y mod jobs that probably will fall apart as I'm finding woth my 740 right now. so definatly go with stock.
