So me and another tech at work bought an 81 242 Glt. I guess the guy didn't want to put a head gasket and alternator in it. His loss, our gain. This car is going to be stripped of the interior, windows and all that useless stuff. The B21 is going to be rebuilt and k-jet is leaving the premises.

I am looking for a 405 head (good luck) and a K cam for now. The word of the day is cheap but I do not mean free (unless you want to). I will post pictures and all that great stuff as time goes by. This is going to be an interesting project and I know that the details are scarce but they will be explained in detail later on once I wrap my head around owning another volvo.

An '81 GLT should have a B23E already...405 head and K cam...

Really? I thought it was B21F...i'll look a little farther into this then. Thanks dale

B21F ended in '80 in Canada. B23E and B21A from '81 to '83 (with the good ones being '81 and '82), B23F and B21A in '84.

Been finding my old parts for the car, found the steering wheel and intakes. Yanked a turbo and 90+ manifold from an engine we had lying around. Also found the GT cluster that I had so i'll pop that in.
No pictures yet, camera is MIA at the moment, have to track down my grandpa and pry it from his hands.
The interior is coming out, carpet was ok from memory, seats are dirty and drivers is ripped on a seam but the rear is mint. Map pockets are ok and center console is fine both in black, I remember though that the passenger armrest is ripped but I have another. I have two sets of the 240 black interior with a full set of the GLT black/white door cards and another pair of fronts. Dash is cracked but I tihnk we are just going to molest it anyway to make stuff work.

If anyone is interested in parts from this beast let me know, we are keeping the major components but let me know and feel free to come take a look. I may even give you the bottle of wine that uncorked itself in the trunk and spilled all over OR even the half finished orange julius in the drivers door pocket

Pulled engine and tranny today, took under an hour to get that bad boy out. Seems as though this engine may be somewhat mentally challenged...the coolant was in the oil and vise versa so off the pan comes next week to check out the bearings and junk.

Stripped the block today. Headgasket was popped in cyl 4 as usual. Nice to see flat tops and everything awesome in this thing. Mains were starting to wear due to it trying to lubricate itself with coolant but we'll just say it was tested the natural lubrication of the bearings. Head looks like it was a little starved but overall decent. Cylinder walls have a nice crosshatch in them and no ridging, I think i'll just run a ball hone through there to clean it up a bit because cyl 4 looks like poop. Oil rings are kinda grungy though so those are being changed out and new bearings and junk are going in anyway. Going to sait some weekend to put the block in the parts washer to clean it all up, I hope they still have the oven though as i'd like that paint cooked off.

We are excited to put this bad boy back together though and if anyone has a turbo that will fit on a 90+ then please let me know.
