Thinking about picking up Roger's neighbours 85 740ti (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1669) and need a cheap way to get it home. I've never done this before but would it be possible to flat tow it home behind my truck? From some quick searches have found tow bar systems that attach to the frame rails without welding, not sure if this is possible on the 740.

U-Haul charges $50 plus tax for a trailer. Why chance it?

Just remember to tell Uhaul that you have a really big truck with a large towing capacity so they don't deny it. Or else tell them you are towing a miata or something small...

Aww now you've just gone and made me feel like an asshole, im still going to go look tonight (hes not showing it to me)

let me know if your going to pass it up.

edit: Andy is right, make sure you have a class 5 rated hitch too, and that you have a 4 prong light adapter (dont buy the ones from them, they suck) or they wont give you the trailer.

Still trying to sort out the truck/trailer issues based on the advice so far. I ran through uhaul's towing calculator entering in my truck's details (1/2 ton 4x4 with class 3 factory hitch) and the weight of the volvo and trailer. At the end it came back with "approved setup". Using their criteria of the truck must weigh 80% of the combined weight of the car and trailer passes as well (although it is close, a 3/4 ton would be much better). Also they don't specify the pin connector required, my truck has a 7 pin.

Based on the their site info I appear to be fine, but from everyone's comments I feel like I am missing something? Also if worse comes to worse with the car being a manual using a dolly would work? So am I OK, have all of you had experiences that contradict what uhaul's site info suggests is OK?
