I'm in desparate need of an alternator from a 140 series car that looks like this.





It takes this regulator.



It came off of a carb'ed 140, but may have been something they used on the D-Jet cars as well.

Mine has an open rotor (short) and the rebuild unit they quoted me was $206!
I'm really hoping someone has one in their parts stash.

Hmmm...just thought of this. I have the original alternator from the B20E in the garage and the alternator that's on the B20B out behind the garage. Lemme have a look...

Chris Morrison probably has 4 or 5 of these alternators laying around his hut.

Crap...can't find the B20E alternator. Likely tossed it with one of the purges. The B20B in the back has a different alternator on it. Different case anyways...

I've got a custom 100A alternator for a B20 engine.

Thanks Andy, but I don't need 100A. I'm going to need the regulator as well. At this point, it may make most sense to go with the Bosch unit as they are supposedly better than the SEV. I've upgraded the battery lead to 8ga, so 55a is not out of the question. Hey, that way I can run the wipers and the headlights! At this point, I've probably got one very pretty paper weight.

How about a Delphi or 3G alternator.
Cheap and very reliable with internal regulator, with 1 wire installation

Delphi (reliable as this is what more NASCAR teams use)

I'm looking for something that doesn't need me to be fabricating. These alternators would be nice, but I'd need a single grove pulley and Dale was able to source a Bosch with regulator that will fit the bill.

use a bosch from a 75 240 and figure out what internal regulator one is the update to it? Should be easy.

Dale's got a new Bosch with regulator coming for me . I'm still interested in getting a replacement as I am now planning on doing the rebuild on this one .

that 100a is always available, its internally regulated as well. Let me know if you change your mind.

Thanks Andy, I'll keep it in mind. For 100A, I'd probably have to go heavier than the 8ga that I used, probably 4ga would be better.

I understand Craig and it looks like you have the solution.
but just as an FYI, a single groove pulley will bolt right onto either of the alternators I mention.

I was just worried about finding the right pully. No big deal. I know they exist, but the issue is getting things sorted out quickly so I can get some miles on the car before our holidays...the weather is not helping.

Or the weather IS helping, because it's not like you can drive that car on these roads anyway! Well, you COULD...
