Whad'ya think ? I know little about these cars but this sounds like a pretty good deal. I've had my eye out for a used XC for a while now.

If all it needs is an alternator yeah real good deal. If it needs a right angle gearbox not so much... :( Have to wonder why it's so cheap especially after all of the work just done. Might be worth a look, but I would look real hard for driveline problems.

Ya Bevel Gear and driveshaft problems are common.

Quite a few people just take out the driveshaft if they can't afford one. (1100 bucks).

Bevel gear is like 3K. And the splines that connect tranny-Bevel gear like to eat themselves.

Oh and see if it has a new throttle (Didn't read the link) Because it probably will sooner or later. There is an extended warranty on them.

Oh and price out an alternator before you decide something. Some are redonkulously priced or not available aftermarket, which are still usually really expensive.

The throttle is 10 year/200,000miles. I've had 3 in the last 2 weeks...stupid things are dying again. Out of warranty the newer ones cost (parts) $750ish and the older ones are around $1000

It isn't a question of "if" the throttle or angle drive will fail. Just a question of when. If you actually use and abuse the AWD any, the parts will die not long thereafter 9 times out of 10.

Unless it is cheap and your desire is short term to just have a nice comfy car to roll around in, avoid those. 1999 is a horrible year anyway. First year of the e-throttle, dash rattles plague them, and the early AWD goes out with the rising sun. Peter and my bud (and often guy I work with) eric see 99s in the shop more than on the road it seems like. Horrible cars.

Kyle bought a 1999 S80 T6 for a song because the owner finally gave up after doing absolutely damn near everything that could be done to it and still coming up a little short. Kyle fixed it up a little and cleaned out the horrible gross interior in it and got about 6 trouble free months out of it. He sold it not long after though (not because it was broken or anything). Even still, Kyle works at V-shop and gets the hookup at basically one of the best volvo shops in north america...if peter can't figure it out, I have no idea who can.
