It's a long story that some here have endured. I'll spare you the details.

And Doug, that Toyota would be a perfect winter beater/disposable car. Tough as nails and loads of parts at PnP. Tires are cheap and the temptation to make it go faster is virtually non-existent.

I am so making you tell me that story soon :)

Toyotas are the ideal a->b car in -40 on the cheap.

Have to admit all of this makes a ton of sense, especially compared to all of the potential for "fun" with an S70. FWIW all our 98 Suzuki Swift gets is oil changes and gas, 13" tires are ridiculously cheap and low 40's MPG with an autotragic. If it were a stick it would be much quieter, get better fuel economy and be more fun to drive. And Matt I have to admit last winter with all of the drifting snow down here it never got stuck once when others were all of the time. I wouldn't take it on the highway very far (too noisy/cramped) but it gets the job done around town.

That's in Nelson :)

All cars from Nelson smell like weed and are awesome, but isn't Nelson a good bit into BC?

There's definitely an acquired link between Minis and Volvos - I bought a Volvo so I could take my Mini off the road for restoration, ended up not restoring it and buying another (older) Volvo! Been driving them ever since... I've love another Mini, but they are just so expensive here.

A lot of the guys in the 480 Europe Club are also into Minis, and I know of a handful on the UK Volvo club. :)

Hey Doug, I'm sure you're watching kijiji etal but here's one that just popped up on Calgary kijiji. Looks not bad for the price and I think that has to be a T-5 with the 5 speed and the spoiler? My research doesn't show the GLT getting the stick, only the base and the T-5 in the sedans although I could be wrong. This is of course assuming you haven't bought a beater Yota...

Although if I were Doug I'd turn Goldie into the winter beater and make this one nice...

Yeah saw that one too, was thinking how much better it looks than the Valdez with ~ 25K more kms #-o . Kind of plain for a turbo, no leather, boost gauge (that I could see) or badging. Nice looking paint and rims from the pics...

I never mentioned it b/c it didn't meet Doug's WWD criteria. :P

all the '95s (including mine) were pieced together from what was left over in the north american spec bins. I'm surprised it doesn't have leather, but afaik, none had boost gauges, and all were simply badged "940".

That is a very nice looking example of the last of the 940's someone should scoop up.

Not sure what to think now on the 95 940 wagon. The price has dropped a grand to $2800 in a day? Now also has an 88 744ti (same seller) that is out in the country somewhere with what appears to be a couple of 850's in the background. Anyone know of someone buying and reselling Volvo's around Calgary, sure looks like a curber at work??

A WWD beater Volvo for under a grand, this meets ALL of the criteria. Well OK it sounds like a POS but it's < $1K.
