They can be rebuilt - by Bilstein...cheap, I don't know about that.

I suspect by the time you pay for shipping to and from Bilstein and for the rebuilding, you could buy a set from Shox.com. I believe they now offer free shipping to Canada. Not only that, buying a new set means you get Bilstein's lifetime warranty.

I thought you got free shipping to Canada, but alas. It's not terribly expensive shipping, though, so cheer up.

From memory based on information a couple years old when I phoned Bilstein to ask, struts are $65/ea to rebuild and shocks are $45/ea. Add in the shipping and the cost of the shocks you're buying, and unless you're getting custom valving done, it's not really worth the hassle.

Oh, yeah, for sure. They're high pressure nitrogen filled, the closure is welded, etc. They're not like a racing shock that can be rebuilt with a set of snap ring pliers...

On the up side, I've heard that the rebuild that they do is first rate and basically you can't tell your old struts/shocks from new when you get them back. I'd pull the trigger on it and get it done.

Have them soften the rebound if it's for the rear of a 544 or 122/1800. Very important. Factory valving is NOT usuable on a daily driver IMO... and I get some confirmation by the fact that John Parker wholly agrees. In fact, if you want to split the shipping.... I'm in Edmonton, but it might make sense...?
