Hi-All,

I went out to John's with my latest shopping-list, as I start to put my car back together. He gives me whatever I need if it was not good on the original vehicle I bought from him. Anyways, due to high demand, a couple of things he did not have:

1) the rubber hanger at the end of the short drive-shaft (...overdrive). It is 4 1/4" across.
2) a j-shaped clamp that attaches the end of the e-brake cable to a bracket at the back of the car. Apparently these break all the time (John had a broken one too). Maybe I can make one out of a small u-clamp?.
3) I need the rubber block that goes into the bottom of the back of the rear trailing-arm. It has an aluminum insert with two holes in it, through which the bolts that hold the trailing-arm to the axle-mount go. I had to cut-off the bolts, and the shafts which remain are in there solid (reminder to self: use lots of grease).
4) Anybody got a brand-new front bumperette (hahahaha)? Apparently the body-shop sent the wrong one in to get chromed. [-o<
5) (this is getting increasingly like a Christmas list) I'm gonna need a nifty steering-wheel at some point. [-o< [-o<

I'll probably see some of you on Friday night.

James

Hmmm, I've got a leather wrapped steering wheel somewhere in my parts stash. The J-bolt you make out of a U as no one has them, the rest you can get new from either Olof or some other supplier. There are no nice steering wheels - you have to repair them and it isn't hard. Bumperette - get the right one fixed and rechromed - you can't have my spares :D

Hahahahahahahah, Craig. All is as I expected (not from you personally), except that I didn't know the j-bolt is unavailable. I'll see from Olaf how long it will take to get the rubber block, and if necessary, I'll pull one of the trailing-arms off of the wagon John is wrecking (I just re-membered that). I'm trying to repair the hanger, we'll see.

I get that steering-wheels are hard to come-by. I have a very nice plastic Volvo emblem which was originally destined for the grill on a newer Volvo. In my dreams I imagine getting a steering-wheel with a button, and replacing it's face with the emblem. Still, I'll need a steering-wheel that will fit; are all splines created equal?? If-so, that just means a trip to the junkyard. I've got a lot of ducks to knock-over first.

Like.... I dropped my cross-member off at my friend's (in Red Deer) who has a machine-shop, and after soaking it for a month, he tried again yesterday to poke it out with the press and some heat, he tells me. No-go, so tomorrow I'm driving up there, and we are going to start drilling it out. If we pick the right side, it will probably only take an inch.

Thanks Craig. Anybody-else who has maybe one of those rubber bits feel free to chime-in.

See you tomorrow! :drinkers:

If this is the part I'm thinking of, I saw a couple on ebay last week.

EDIT: is this it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-VOL ... 2ea3fc2cc8

It's a P1800 one, but since you've got the overdrive I'm guessing it's a fit. I think I've actually got one of these, but I had one disintegrate on me before so I'm pretty hesitant to give it up. If you are in a bind, let me know.
