This is why i'm saying its for taking the valve cover off a whiteblock because you have to unload it evenly so you don't crack it.

ahh, that can be achieved by by backing the bolts off a little bit at a time, it's the tool for compressing it all back together so it can be bolted up

Just to make you feel good - nope, I haven't got it yet. Clearly something to do with the alternator. Maybe a way to diagnose the charging system?
