Camera battery died just as I was about to take a picture... #-o

There looks to be a 2nd arm coming down from the shift selector that is connected to the transmission. I'm accustom to seeing the single arm that attaches to the side of the transmission up by the dipstick tube. This has that but there is this other one. It looks like it comes from the back of the shifter housing box. It comes straight down, then 90 degrees back, down, forward and up to a shaft with a cotter pin near the top of the transmission. Looks like a bit of a convoluted "G" shape. I had Beth move the shifter from Park all the way down to 1 and this arm doesn't seem to move. Any hint as to what that is?

Something else I noticed with this car...if I was sitting at a light in "D" and moved the shifter to 1, the car would lurch forward, like you went from neutral to drive. Any reason for that?

Mystery solved. It's nothing more than a support for the wire that goes to the o/d solenoid. Kind of errrr...robust...and elaborate but that's what it is...
