That sucks, x2. Nothing too catastrophic, though!

Did you figure out what those wires were for?

Yup, I'm pretty sure those wires go to the coil. I've got everything connected to something now. In theory the car could start now. I've got everything wired up for the battery, so I just need to plug one in and see what happens.

Not sure what happened with the coolant leak. Is it possible that with the car sitting so long, the o-rings dried out or something? I'm just confused, as I've never had this happen, and I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I also noticed some coolant weeping out of the thermostat housing as well....even more weird. That one is REALLY hard to screw up.

Don't know about the pump seals...but they have to be VERY squished to seal well. I may have spare seal rings in my parts collection if you want to strip it and try again.

Cool. Thanks. Would I have to redo the gasket as well if I unseat the pump?

I've ordered the seal rings...we'll make the gasket (I have a water pump or two lying around and will just cut you one). I also ordered that fuel tank bung tool.

I have a bung tool you can borrow if it's not too late to cancel yours (unless you really want your own  )

  I'm glad the rest of the internet doesn't read this thread...imagine what they'd think. I don't mind having one around and it made the IPD shipping almost bearable.

huh???, whadya mean, I don't understand...

Hear you on iPd's shipping rates, what a joke!! I'm in the process of putting together a bigger order from them, FCP and a catback exhaust from another outfit all shipped to Sweet Grass to make it worthwhile.

(sorry for cluttering up your thread Greg, I'll shut up now...)

Back on topic again, I might have a complete WP gasket/seal set if you're being held up waiting on iPd, LMK and I'll check tonight when Lisa brings the car home as I think it's in the trunk if I have them.

No worries Jim. And thanks Jim and Craig for the parts offers. (Craig, sorry you ordered some). I did some looking in the garage tonight and found both seals and a pump gasket. So I'm good to go there! Thanks again.

A quick bit of work tonight, and I got the pump pulled, as well as my oil pressure sending thingy. The pump oil ring didn't look all that bad, which leads me to wonder if it just wasn't compressed enough then. I remember heaving on it pretty good, but maybe it wasn't enough. I also felt a bit of scoring on the underside of the head mating surface, so I also wonder if that might be the issue too. I checked my other head, and didn't notice anything there, so the one on the car might need a bit of cleanup. The oil pressure sender just has a snapped thread, so I'm hoping that's easily fixed.

Dr. Pushrod...you and your torque wrench around sometime this weekend to help with a water pump install? My wrench is busted, and I think I could use another set of hands if possible.

I also wondered if there is a torque for a water pump. At your service with any number of torque wrenches and pairs of hands to help. We are refinishing hardwoor, so this will be a welcome disteaction between coats of finish.

 Some of us don't have the finely calibrated arm that you do Matt...and we require a special wrench that tells us how much to turn a bolt. So in your case, for a water pump, you would apply approximately 0.00373 Dupuis' to the water pump bolts.

Thanks Craig. I'll give you a call sometime this weekend then.

Been hard at organizing the garage, throwing stuff away, and sorting stuff to sell. In the meantime, I gave the YROG a new front end.

Image

Swapped headlights to single rounds, grille, signal lenses, as well as one signal lens in the back. Weight savings for the single round conversion including new grille amounted to 4.9 pounds. Not bad. The Smurf's flathood goes on tomorrow.

Going to build a platform in the rafters tomorrow too, throw a bunch of stuff in boxes up there, and then its on with the rest of the car. Most of the parts I need to put on are sorted and ready to go.

Looking great Greg...glad you kept the rad support from the Smurf. Too bad we forgot to grab the panel that joins the fenders on the bottom front. Oops.
