Today, I got my first dash crack on my 1987 240. Up until now the dash was flawless, not even a buble. After a winter in cold storage and two weeks parked outside, on this very morning my first crack appeared. It feels like I got my first cavity at the dentist (which I just did) but worse, because I never thought it would happen. Well it did happen.
Then to top it off while I was at dinner, my car rolled into the car in front of me due to my extra 'light touch' at the e-brake. Damage to the bumper trim and bumper paint followed.
Later on I was helping my dad unload trees, and I ripped my favorite white shirt which went so well with jeans. I'm not saying its' connected to the car incidents but it could be, and likely was.

Really, a dash crack shouldn't be life-threatening no matter how things seem when it comes your turn. I'll always remember when she was pretty though...
Hell, I'm going to get an abs dash from IPD! It'll just have to wait till winter to be installed.
No biggie, just wanted to whine and see who is listening

Don't do the IPD dash cap crap, Brad - it'll look like complete ass. They even say it's a ghetto repair.

Cracked dashes drive me insane. Learning to walk away from them is a skill I have yet to acquire, but a needed skill for someone who owns old Volvos. Brad, I am sorry to hear about your loss.

I bought a $200 '79 244 some time ago in Vancouver. Pulled the low km engine to put in my '79 245, got a good heater core, a Thule rack....and.....a perfect dash. The car had been sitting in a shaded back yard for most of its life, so it was perfect! I pulled it, and swapped it into my own car. Somewhere in the twisting and bolting of the swap, a small hairline crack developed. I just about lost my mind.

Since then, several others have developed, and recently, I added to the chaos by driving three holes in the dash with a 2" holesaw. The cracks got worse.....but I guess its too late for me! We're all doooooomed!!!

Greg

Well, iv'e had some luck with black urethane on dash cracks. Fortunately this car has a black dash and the crack is just split not bubbled. Thanks for the tips on IPD dash Matt. I would have wasted that money without hesitation.
