i need help...what puzzles me now is the reverse switch and the OD solenoid wiring

i have from a reverse light sensor wire which i know what to do with

two reverse switch wires which i dont know what to do with

a positive wire from the OD solenoid which i dont know what to do with

what i believe to be the wire for the inhibitor switch...but i cant find a place on the tranny to put it

when i pulled the aw71 there were 4 wires attached to the side of the gearshift, leading to a grey harness with black/pink/blue...etc...wires...5 in total...two bridged into one socket of the harness

is that what i need to re-wire these?

ciao

From memory, so take with grain of salt....

auto harness has extra wire for light, that one doesn't get used obviously.

2 wires to reverse circuit. switch on drivers side of tranny for 2 wires.

have the OD wiring diagram at home (i think chilton had the best one) but I think it goes-

2 wires from shifter switch to relay.
One wire from relay to solenoid.
One wire from relay to 4th gear switch on passengers side of tranny (at the top, reach way up).
One wire to the fuse box for power.

I'll try and get you the diagrams, or scan it. Are you still at Kal? I have one more tire to balance (yay, it's fixed! for now....)

I assume you know you need a different overdrive relay, right Vik?

Reverse circuit- 2 wires, one goes into the switch on the tranny from the fuse box, one goes out to the reverse lights. when the switch is closed (in reverse) the circuit is complete and the little white lights at the back of the car go on.

Overdrive- Does i have to draw you a pik-chur?

Oh come on Vik
Wiring will be a weekend - tops.

Remember your auto had a neutral safety switch (would only crank in park & neutral) With the manual this is bypassed and there are two options. You can either connect the two wires together so the starter can be engaged at any time (this is what I did) or you can install a clutch neitral safety switch where the clutch has to be depressed before the starter will engage ( a real PITA in my opinion)

a weekend? i can only hope... :?

i see what you mean though...can i just ignore it as i never start a manual car without depressing the clutch anyway (just a habit) or do i need to attach these two wires together for the starters sake...so it will actually work?

ciao

The starter won't crank without you jumpering those wires. It's really simple... in a 240s case, there's even a pre-jumpered plug that's in all M46 cars.

I don't know about the M46 overdrive wiring, but you should be able to pirate the wiring out of a 240 if you can't figure it out - no need to wait for an M46 700. You might be able to just plug the relay into the existing harness - I'm not sure and neither will you be until you drive it, I'm afraid. The 200 harness has a piggyback sub-harness for the OD, and it's just a wire to the fusebox and a wire to ground, plus a couple wires to your shifter and you're done.

off to work here...from what i have read though

the aw71 and m46 wiring in a 700 was the same...relay and all...i guess i'll just have to make a list and knock it off one at a time

start that tonight i guess

ciao

pretty sure it's not coming to BC...which sucks...but oh well

I cancelled Mexico, so I've got some spare time coming up before my next gig. Overdrive wiring is easy, i had to redo it twice on my red Vulva.

Lets git er on the road! :D

thanks Raz but it's okay...

i pondered for a bit last night...then packed all the parts into boxes, basically anything related to the 700 and put all my tools away as well

this car just isn't meant to be running right now...too much other stuff is going on in my life right now and the upcoming new job means i could be outta town starting wednesday and not getting back into town until the 3rd of august, if i decide to come back to go to BC or not, that is also undecided right now...last week it was a sure thing...last night/today not so much anymore

ciao
