Hi, I'm Geoff from Saskatchewan. I'm 21, but look 16.. and I like vo vo's. I probably wouldn't like them if it wern't for the people that associated with them... now I'm FORCED to love them (well I do anyway).

I'm too stuborn to leave Saskatchwan yet I wish I could hang around the Calgary guys more. So that's what brings me here.

That's my intro!

Allo allo,
My name is Gregory Q. Thiessen aka. volvoshredder.
Besides existential high-jumping, my main passions include dissecting American foreign policy, supporting social deviancy by wearing shorts all year round, and of course Volvos!
While I may or may not have been conceived in a '73 145, I spent the better part of my younger years hiding from the outside world in the safe confines of said car. My parents were into Volvos, as was my brother. When I started to drive, I drove that same 145, and since I have grown into numerous 240's. I greatly enjoy all forms of Volvoness, but mainly 240's, preferably 1975-1980 240's, with lots of rust.
What else....
I recently saw North America's first Volvo C30 deep in the confines of the IPD warehouse in Portland.
Hooray!
Where's all the new people?
VS

Since I started this thread, I suppose I'd better put something meaninful into it:

My name's Matt, and I have been taking apart my toys all my life. Only recently have I learned how to build my own. My father's first and only Volvo was a '74 1800 ES that he owned for about 3 years, until he sold it to a friend's brother, who moved to Calgary (and later Banff? Canmore? Bragg Creek?) and still owns it.

I've had many careers, but during one of my more brief ones (long distance trucker) a wonderful vision came to me: Me, with a silver 242 Turbo, suitably modified, tear-assing out to the shushwaps for a houseboat vacation. I don't know why the houseboat vacation, but the car was bitchin'.

My first Volvo was a '77 242 DL, which I modified, turboed a few times, and eventually it dissolved into an unsafe state, at which point I crushed it. I've owned several more, and am currently driving a 244 V8. My next car will likely be another early 242 - in fact I've got one already picked out - and it will be Volvo powered.

I'm sorry to say, I'm not a "Volvo guy"... at least, I've been known to have other automotive interests besides Volvos, and I still have several I'd like to pursue before I'm finished playing. On the bright side, I've never amassed this amount of knowledge on any single automotive marque before, and I've never owned the same type of vehicle twice, until Volvos. So far I've owned 8 (if you count non-runners and that 1800, which I do), and number 9 is on the way.

That's really a stupid joke that it's not even worth explaining. You must have a good knowledge of French and mainly to be drunk to find it funny!

About myself, I'm 25 years old and I'm still not sure how I ended up in Alberta. I'm a turbobrick fan because of my father, he got a new '84 244 when I was 3 years old, he changed it for a '89 240 and bought a used '85 245 as a second car (which lasted one winter) but the '89 240 had a huge amount of trouble, mainly because of the damn autotragic. So he upgraded to a new '91 745 turbo. Which is my current car. He was a real fan of the "brick period", he got a '98 S70 when I took over the 745, but I've never saw my father getting ride of a car so quickly!!! The newest Volvo have nothing to do with the old ones and what we like in the old one, we can't find it in the new one. Anyway. Since I'm young, I've always been in a brick. Modern cars doesn't attract me and I really enjoy my 745. It's fun to drive even without driving hard, it's perfect to drive long runs, it's quite cheap to run and reliable, it's really useful (I won't be able to buy anything else than a real wagon!) and mainly, it's a rwd with a stick without these damn anti-idiot electronic devices (except the ABS, but I'll try to desactive it next winter) so it's a car that YOU drive and you actually learn to drive! It's a total blast during winter! I'm always out for a ride when I see that it's snowing! I'm totally addicted to this fun, 'specially since I moved here. Driving the deserted Maligne Lake Road or Icefield Parkway during winter always gives me an orgasm! (kinda... )

You probably already know, while I'm addicted to driving, I'm not only clueless about mechanic, I just hate it. Just a oil change bothers me. As my car is starting to get old and rusty, I'm always thinking anout getting a new car or a 740/940 that is in a better shape, but I always end up finding out that I still love my car a lot... I just wish I could give it a small youth cure but well...

Drunk  give me 3 beer :?

Myself, the condensed version.

I have always loved cars, especially foreign ones. I went straight from high school into SAIT where I got my mechanics license. I worked for many shops including; Sports Tune Ltd, a high performance foreign shop (Jag, Jensen, Lotus, British, Japanese and Italian), as well as dealerships, corner garages and fleet operations. During this time I was involved in some sort of racing, pro rally, Road course, & Formula Ford. Did the mechanics thing for 14 years before I moved into Human Resources & adult education, I now manage a division in a small consulting company.

So far I have owned well over 40 cars, 3 of which were/are Volvo's and I can say they are the most rewarding. I change cars when they bore me, the Volvo's never have. I currently own a 765TI wagon and a V8 powered 744TI.

Since my "Volvord" is nearing completion I am now starting to focus on my next project, the plan is to build a teardrop trailer to tow behind the 740 and start enjoying the summers.
Hobbies include cabinet making, photography, cars and my current "mid-life" crisis.

Well...doesn't seem like any newbies are going to post and it seems rather silly to introduce myself to a bunch of people I already know but whatever...

I'm Dale. I have a problem. At least my wife tells me so. My problem is that I spend far too much time and money buying stuff on eBay, far too much time trying to sell other stuff to fund the preceding and then far too much time bolting the newly acquired parts to one of the Volvos that call my place home.

There are currently 3 Volvos in my stable but that will soon be reduced to 2 when Matt takes possession of the '75 242 that's been sitting under a tarp in my driveway for a year. Incidentally, it's not exactly a rust bucket...it's been completely stripped, blasted and sealed up with an industrial epoxy primer...

The second Volvo in my stable is an '85 245Ti which I bought about 4 years ago. This was the vehicle responsible for bringing Athal, Matt and I together however many years ago it was. It started life with me as a daily driver. I slowly tried to transform it into a monster but reality set in along with a couple of engine rebuilds in a couple of years and it's pretty much back to stock. It's still got some beefy swaybars on it and some poly bushings in it so it's still fun to drive, even with the AW71...that's right Roj...I said fun to drive with the AW71...

My current pride and joy is a '67 122s which I've poured my heart and soul into for the last 6 months. The list of mods is lengthy and the time spent to complete them has been substantial on my part as well as Matt's. The fruits of our collective labor was (were?) evident a couple of weeks ago when we took it to Vancouver for the annual Turbobrick PacNW meet. 2500 km of some pretty severe abuse and it never missed a beat. I'm mighty proud of the job we did and the results. I've got a sweet little car that makes all sorts of noise, goes around corners like nothing else and stops on a dime. What more could a 44 year old father of two want? Well...maybe a bigger cam and a supercharger? Hmmm...both just happen to be sitting in my garage 8) .

Tits Magee, a.k.a. Kayla Rae Sparkes
I'm named after a character from 1982 Days of Our Lives. (Thanks mom.)

As for my love of Volvos... I blame it on Jordan!
I met him in grade 11, and at the time he and his dad had two 244s in the driveway (one ran and one was for parts, naturally).
I remember thinking at first "what an ugly car" but after riding in it, and hearing all the cool stories about adventures in it, and then getting to drive it myself (yay, first manual car I drove)... I was hooked.

I was the assistant & tool-getter when he worked on it, so naturally from observing and hearing Jordan & Martin talk about the car, I learned a fair bit. After highschool came the 1979 GT, and man what a car it was... I miss it a lot. Anyhoo... I got comfortable driving it, and had the pleasure of also driving a couple 740 Turbos and 850 Turbo. Actually, back in highschool I even got to drive Martin's 122 for like 2 minutes, haha!! The auto knowledge I've picked up over the last 6-7 years is awesome, and I'm proud that I know as much as I do.... pretty good for a girl! ;)

Anyways, that's my "Volvo story". I now have a black beauty 245Ti, and as some of you know it isn't running because I'm a retard. Hopefully I'll have it back soon. And if not then I'll have to find some way to put it on a trailer and get it up here so that I *can* work on it.

Anything else you want to know? Ask!
