Hey guys, i've finally had it with the lack of side bolstering and the deteriorating foam in the GT, not to mention the springs poking at my butt, i was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on stock seats i could get from another car. During the summer i do a lot of driving to my cabin near cranbrook and back racing seats arent really an option for me.

I was thinking about getting some seats out of an RSX or say a civic. There are only a few things im looking for in seats, black in color, flip forward for access to the back and have decent side bolsters. My only concern would be the width and height of the seat fitting the 240. Anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks

Jon

maybe 850 seats? I know john (the apritot) has that on his drivers and he loves it.

I'd look for the Recaros out of a MkII GTI....fairly cheap, flip forward, black, and good support. Shouldn't be too hard to fit.

850 seats are HEAVY and not all that much better bolstered than the 240 seats.

VW Mk1 and Mk2 seats will be a bitch to mount, 'cause VW's mount them using a center front rail and rear sliders, with nothing to bolt on or unbolt. You'd have to chop off all the stock mounts and weld on new ones... just the thing to light your upholstery on fire. I'm not sure about the Mk3 or Mk4 seats.

Having said that, check out Concept 1 (a VW shop) in Calgary. They have some pretty nice new seats for reasonable prices, and I think they're a more universal mount (with bolt-on mounts to fit the VW should you desire).

Athal's got some Mazda 626GT seats in his car, and they feel pretty good. Lots of back and leg side support, lots of adjustability. Wasn't a real pain to mount either, though I'm not sure if welding was required.

Whatever seats you look at, make sure they're strong enough to take a hit. The APC seats and many other cheapo aftermarket seats will fold in a collision and are not allowed in many racing events. Don't even know if they're DOT legal.

I think I took some pictures during the install, but it's pretty straight forward. I ended up welding the Mazdarati seats to some square bar, then welding those to the volvo seat rails, so the seats "sit" a little higher than I'd like, but like matt says, they work well. I might redo it and use angle iron and just bolt the angle iron to the floor. Pics later.
