I am replacing my diff with the true trac and changing my gears to a 410 ratio, but having some issues witht he gearing. The LSD fits perfect, but the gear centre provided me with what i thought was the correct crown and pinion but it does not fit at all.

Does anyone know what the part numbers would be for this set up...or how i could get this info???

Thanks

Houston

If you've got a 1031 diff (stock with a turbo car), the standard Dana 30 gears will not fit. Standard Dana 30 gears fit into a 1030 diff, as far as I understand. The difference is that the 1030/Dana 30 uses a 7.25" ring gear and a smaller pinion snout, and the 1031 uses a 7.75" ring gear and a larger pinion snout. The 1031 also uses different pinion bearings. 1030 gears will not fit into a 1031 housing, nor will they go vice-versa.

Another thing which doesn't concern you in this case, is that in the standard Dana 30, the 3.54 and taller gears require one differential carrier, and the 3.73 and shorter gears require another. In Volvo-land, all differential carriers interchange and the difference is made up in the ring gear itself.

You can tell the difference between the two by the fins on the bottom of the 1030 diff versus the smooth bottom of the 1031, and the 1031 often has big heavy-looking lugs cast into the passenger side of the differential housing, used on the 700 and 900 series cars, while the 1030 doesn't have this.

Most 240 axles don't come with 4.10s. Actually, apart from the really early ones with like a gutless wonder of a B20 and an automatic and the 76 B21F cars here saddled with a vac pump and the odd 78.early 79 GT, I never really see 4.10s in any 240, and all the ones listed above are 1030s usually.

If you have a 1031, that isn't a huge deal if you are actually changing the gears and not the whole axle though, you just have to look for a nasty later model N/A k-car (740) automatic of either 8v or 16V flavor. Most of those have 4.10 gears of 1031 flavor, and I'm tripping over those things it seems like. I have a 4.10 ring and pinion from like a 90 740GL to put into my 240 1031 at some point. I'm in no rush though, as mine has a 3.91 currently.

I have two 1030 4.10 gearsets - one bare, one in a 240 axle.

thanks matt...james is looking for a 410 from a 1031 and so am i...maybe one will appear. If not would you consider selling the entire rear 1030 rear end with the 410 in it?

Yep, though I'm not totally sure of it's condition. If you're going to be tearing it apart to install the true-trac, I assume you'll be putting in new bearings, etc...
