I just crashed with my bike. A damn cougar (you know, what you never see) was laying in the middle of the trail when I was going down a steep hill. Just half a second lacking focus and I hit something and crashed. About 200$ of damage on my bike (bent front axel, broken seat and twisted disk brake and minor stuff) and a lot of bleeding on my side. Damn wild animals! GET OUT OF MY WAY!

A cougar? You're lucky to just be bleeding from cuts and scrapes. Those are nasty cats and occasionally eat people for sport...

I arrived behind him. He got scared when he heard me arriving behind him but he was even more scared when my bike flew toward him!

I did warn the Park Canada people as the Cougar was close to the town of Jasper.

But now, I can't walk straight. (beside the bleeding, I seriously hit my muscle of my leg)

And damned... I put more money on my bike this year than on my car (I could almost have bought a new one)

Wow!
Dude, you are damn lucky that cougar didn't take you out. Scaring one is not a good thing, so the fact that he didn't swipe your torso in half while you were laying on the ground is a pretty good deal for you. That said, sorry you got hurt, and your bike is wrecked.

I've been a pretty hardcore cross-country rider for years, and I've never encountered a cougar. Bears a couple times, but no close calls. The one time, I was on a downhill, and my friend in front of me swerved to avoid what he thought was a bush in the middle of the trail. The bush got up and went bounding through the trees. It was a cub, so we got the crap outta there as mom was close by.
