Hi All,

Here's how I spent the rest of my summer vacation...new inner fenders for the Canuck. The inner front fenders are one of the worst rust spots on 122's and one of the only parts on my car that were rusty beyond repair. Replacements are readily available and cheap - thank God.

Here's the starting point - thing's look good, but they are not all that they appear.

After removing the fenders there was at least one attempt at repair...with caulking and a riveted in plate. The previous owner was sort of addicted to caulk, and used it to "repair" most of the rust problems with the car. Lipstick on a pig, I say.

Here's the top rust hole.

Here's the passenger side done...I didn't take any photo's inbetween - too busy workng. This is the Volvo replacement part...fit like crap. Had the fender on and off about 6 times to get the gap correct.

This is the drivers side done with a panel from Olof, it's not an original part, but it fit much more accurately. All box sections were rust proofed before they were mounted and the silver stuff is weldable primer. I'll seam seal it all sometime today.

I had some time earlier in the week and decided to build a set of covers to hide the wiring, relays etc. They are attached with 1/4 turn Dzus fasteners. I also mounted studs everywhere and there will be no holes drilled into my inner fenders - should last a little longer than the originals.

Now I just have to grind it all up pretty, coat it with POR-15 and find my undercoating gun (has to be in the garage somewhere).

Craig

Nice work! Better than I did on either of my 122s... Should be solid for a good long time. Wow, shiny dashpots.

Must have some pictures somewhere, but no cars anymore... I'm jealous. Not that I need any more cars, 5 at the moment.
