I've never had to register an out of province vehicle before and it appears that the 740T I am getting from Roj's neighbor is from BC and has not been registered in Alberta. I know it needs an OOPI but the owner informed that the title was shipped back to BC (not sure why?) so is a BOS going to be enough to prove title transfer. Off the top of my head I am going to say no, anyone know how this is done or if I am OK as is. :?:

if that vehicle is in the kind of shape a free/cheap vehicle usually is in: it will fail an OOP.

however, you *could* just give it an albertan VIN :)

I guess I was thinking when everything is fixed up and it's ready for the road?

Your second suggestion is uhh...

I just checked the Alberta gov site, only refers to a completed BOS as required documentation??

Oh yes, sorry.

All you need is a random bill of sale, can be scratched in blood and sweat on a post it note, and it will work in alberta.

I love alberta for bills of sale, i hate everything else about the registration here. :)

By the way, I've had good luck with Harold's in town being rather reasonable with my cars and I know that Greg's 75 had a fair inspection at Elis's Autodrome. Just thought I'd pass that along.

You wouldn't if you had anything worth stealing. No offense meant, but since all it takes is some minor trickery, a stolen car (or motorhome, or utility trailer, or motorcycle, or...) can be registered under a different VIN and nobody ever checks it. The only time anyone's ever looked at my VIN is when the registration said the colour of the vehicle was grey, and it was mostly white with some grey accents. Other than that, and when you go to sell it, nobody has reason to check.

But on topic, all you need for Alberta registration is a BOS and an OOP. The OOP can be frustrating if you take it to a shop that has the attitude of "finders keepers": if they find a bad balljoint, only THEY can replace it or you have to pay for the OOP again. I've used Magnum Automotive in Calgary and they're excellent.

it's true, if I had something more valuable, I'd probably care more - and I'm sorry, but the bill of sale system, prone to misuse as it is, is at the very least convenient for most people who buy and sell used cars lots :)

Ain't arguing with you there. I love the freedom to move like this, but if I DID have a travel trailer (or skidoo, or quad, or...) I'd make sure it was well locked up and etched for identification.

Thanks!! Will look at one of those 2 when the time comes. Everything else is falling in line, should have my first project car this Saturday. :D
