when i go around a corner the fan fuse burns out, this however does not happen while going straight, even on bumpy roads

anyone got ideas...i spoke to Ian and he said maybe the heater motor mounts have gone...or someting

HELP! no heater fan sucks!

That's pretty weird...never had that happen. I'd pull out panels under the dash and trace the wiring from the fuse box, and check to see if anything is exposed or shorting out. I dunno. Are you signaling during these turns? If so, there could be a short between some signal wiring and the fan wiring? Dunno.

I would assume you'd hear the fan blades hitting against the case if they were.. so do you notice a noise vik?

This might not be a fun job if you have to pull the heater assembly.. hopefully it is a wiring issue like Greg mentioned. Pray to the volvo Gods!

yea the heater blades must be binding on something, in order to regulate current electric motors need a certain amount of back emf which basically means when the rotor(insert proper name here) within the electric motor spins it creates an apposing voltage to the applied voltage which in turn reduces the current. If the blades were to bind within the body of the heater and the motor would be forced to slow down itwould reduce the back emf in relation to the applied voltage therefore the current through the motor would jump way up and thus the fuse would blow.

At least i got Something out of electrical engineering.

i traced the wiring from the fuse panel to where that rats nest is right behind the heater controls on the center console, nothing seems to be grounding out or anything

it happens when cornering, signal on or off

no sound to be heard, the fan fuse just cuts out

i am really tempted to just hard wire this thing, it's really pissing me off

ciao

if what im thinking is happening is infact happening if you hard wire it, the motor will burn out quickly as the jump in current creates a huge increase in temp within the electric motor

do you think it would cause a fire? that's really the only thing i am worried about...if i hard wire it and the motor burns out then at least i'll know what i have to replace, rather than this mystery bullshit

ciao

yea i know what you mean, i dont know how large the motors are so im unsure if it would cause a fire or not, one of the other guys might be able to answer that one better for ya, if the fan isnt completely jamming maybe try using a higher amp fuse as a temporary fix?

Im personally running completely without heat, the heater core or heater control valve or something else within the cabin area is leaking coolant so i had to bypass it and still havent had time to do a thorough check of the system :(

You said that the fuse is blowing whether you've got the heater fan on or not, Vik? Ain't the motor, then, or any of the wiring going between the switch and the motor. What else is on that circuit? I'm guessing it's a bare wire hitting the chassis while cornering and popping your fuse.

Yes, if you bypass the fuse, you stand the risk of setting the wiring on fire. That's what the fuse is there to protect, after all.

okay who wants a puzzle!!! yeah?! get ready!

i un-plugged all the connections to that fuse that kept blowing, put a new fuse in it, tried to start the car...nothing, it was cranking...but seemed like not enough juice was there...or something

fair enough

plugged all connections back into that fuse EXCEPT the heater fan power wire...just as the ignition key turned to "I", 'pop'...fuse is blown

ok...hmm let's try to start the car

fire's right up!!!

i plugged the heater power wire into a vacant prong on another fuse, which is always supplied power, went for a test drive, everything works as normal...just have to remember to shut the fan off when i turn the car off, easy enough...i have working heat now, a lot better than before

so how the F can the car not start with these connections unplugged, but start fine when plugged in, but with a blown fuse THUS...breaking the power connection anyway

this was all tested while the car was stationary in the garage...until i test drove the relocated heater wire

hello gremlins!!!

i can't wait to re-wire this car!!!

ciao

You want the answer to the puzzle? I'll give you a hint: 5 letter word, starting with V.

HAHAHAHA

good one

apparently the previous previous owner tried to do a lot of re-wiring himself, but basically just fooked around with it and accomplished nothing but headache's, the rick's had to do a lot of wire tracing to get it working properly

guess i just found something else

ciao
